Summer of 2003
Dear Shinichiro,
Everyday, I'll choose my normal and boring days with you.
"(Y/n)?" Yae called while both of you exited the pediatric ward after getting some blood samples of selected patients to be delivered to the laboratory. The tray of samples were now being carried by her while you held the charts.
"Yeah?" You heard her sigh. Knowing your roommate for five years, you immediately knew what she was going to say. Especially when both of you just saw children a while ago.
"I might sound like a broken record, repeating the same question everyday, but have you told him yet?" she asked, biting her lower lip in anticipation.
You shook your head, her shoulders slumped but nevertheless still managed to crack a smile. But you knew that she felt a bit disappointed.
It had been a few days since you discovered that you were pregnant with Sano Shinichiro's baby. And those few days meant more than a few failed attempts to tell him about your pregnancy.
One of the main reasons why was because the both of you had been too busy to meet up. He told you that there was a sudden demand from clients who needed their motorcycles to be fixed.
While you were sometimes too tired to stop by at his shop or house—especially when you needed to study after resting a bit. Though you miss him a lot, your mental and physical state could just not cooperate with what your heart wanted.
So, for now, you would only rely on phone calls whenever you wanted to check up on him and ask about his day. While you would casually avoid questions about yours—either giving a typical response like 'my day's good' or 'nothing much happened'.
Hearing him talk soothed you just like that. But hearing yourself talk in your conversations with your fiancé? Especially when you were obviously hiding something, made you feel nauseous. Each word you would spew made your stomach turn inside out as if the room was filled with the scent of cigarettes.
Therefore, you made a mental note to minimize talking as much as possible, until you had told him the truth. Now, it may seem that you were just making excuses, but you just couldn't find the right timing. This kind of news was too important to be dropped on the phone anyway.
"I haven't seen much of him lately, and I think that this is not something that we should talk about over the phone," you explained. "But I think we're meeting tomorrow, it is his birthday."
Yae's controlled smile grew into a mischievous smirk, "That's perfect then. Tell him that your gift this year is his child" she mouthed the last few words before giggling.
