Camilo's pov
I sighed as I looked over at her. Her being my best friend, Y/N Reyes.
She was very pretty but I knew she'd just get prettier as the years went on. I promised myself as a kid that one day I'd ask her out. But after finding certain documents of hers, that might not happen.
"Hey y/n, what are those documents in the suitcase under your bed in Mirabel's bedroom?" I asked her.
I heard her turn towards me, but I kept my eyes on the sun knowing that if she looked into my eyes, she'd know that I knew what the documents were really about.
We were laying in the meadow behind Casita trying to hide from our responsibilities in the village.
I thought it was a good time to be alone and ask her in private.
"They're just legal documents about the law of our country and the world. I got curious and wanted to learn about it," she explained. I nods my head.
"But they're all about the custody of a child under different circumstances. Why are you learning about that?" I asked.
Y/n sighed and probably figured I was already onto her. I really do hope she tells me.
Not only because I think I'm her best friend, but one of the people she trusts the most besides Mirabel.
Mirabel is always in everyone's business though.
She always wants to know the problem and solve it for everyone.
So I know Y/n doesn't trust Mirabel with everything like she does with me.
The only thing I think she doesn't tell me about is girl stuff. But even then she tells me some things since I already hear about it from all my other cousins and my sister.
"I wanted to know if there was any way that you guys could legally take me in and fight against my father in court if he ever tried to force me to live with him. My grandmother was the only legal boundary that kept him from even contacting me or taking me away. He never liked or wanted me as a child, but as a father he thought it wasn't safe for me to be living here in a village with magical folk like you," Y/n confessed.
I turned to her and saw she was tearing up a bit. She's had it rough almost all of her life and I felt bad for her.
When she was only 2, her mom died from a house fire.
So she continued living in the village with her grandmother for the past 8 years. But a month or two ago her grandmother died in her sleep.
That day was so tragic for everyone. Especially y/n and Abuela who was close friends with her grandmother.
Abuela then took y/n in as her own grandchild and she's been living with us ever since.
But I hear not only from Mirabel who talks with y/n about that stuff, but I hear from Abuela. Y/n might not legally be able to stay here.
Her father lives in another country but was never part of y/n's life. He cheated on his wife with y/n's mother who thought loved her. But when they found out she was pregnant, he cut her off and sent her away.
When we bumped into him at the city when Julieta took us to the city at 6 years old, he told y/n then and there that she was a mistake of his that should never have existed. That he wanted nothing to do with him.
Y/n was now on the verge of crying as she thought of everything like having to live with her father because of her grandmother's death.
I sighed and face her now. I grabbed her hand, making her look at me with those teary, beautiful hazel eyes.
