As my alarms blares through the room I stumble around seeking my phone. Once I find it I shut off the obnoxious ringing and find my jeans. I turn on a light and squint to pick up my clothes scattered on the floor before dropping them in my duffle. I grab my stuff, double and triple checking it to make sure it was all there. before blindly guiding myself down the creaking staircase.
I walk to momma's room and knock twice leaning against the wall. She comes out in a robe. "What is it?"
"It's 1 I need a ride to the airport."
"Ok let me get dressed." I just nod in my drunken and sleep-deprived state as she gets ready.
We load into the truck and drive into the city. We make it to the airport after what seemed like hours of silence. I hug and kiss her goodbye with the wishes of staying in contact before I walk through the doors. I'm escorted to my gate and promptly fall asleep.
When I come into consciousness next I'm being ushered onto the plane. I've started to sober up by now and text Becky my arrival time.
I fall back asleep to the dull hum of the metal can flying through the sky.
Arriving at camp was the worst possible thing. Turns out I wasn't sobering up I was actually coming to terms with my hangover. I spot Becky and stumble my way over to her. I shimmy into the tight car and value the short drive of silence back to the hotel.
"Come on coal let's get you to breakfast."
"Yer got Advil." I mumble pinching my temples.
She chuckled and shakes her head before walking up to the front desk. She returns with a small bottle. She opens it and hands me four pills before closing the lid and placing it in her pocket.
"Thanks," I mutter as I shove the small pink pills into my mouth. Swallowing them dry. We stumble well I stumble as Becky gracefully walks into the meal room. I make my plate and walk to my seat. I eat it clean basically licking the plate before laying down my head. My nap is short-lived as Kelley starts hollering.
"Holy shit she's alive," Kelley says obnoxiously loud.
"Yeah, and can you shut yer trap". I retort digging my head further into my arms.
"Kelley please stop," Kristie says sternly. I just burrow my head deeper into the table wishing I was in a bed.
Kelley decides to back off and the rest of breakfast is spent in the comforting peace of the cold wood pressed against my forehead. The thumping in my skull is amplifying as the minutes go on.
"Cmon ladies let's load up. Oh, Coal glad to see you back. Go grab your kit and get ready for training." I nod barely picking my head off the table.
"Cmon coal let's go," Kristie says laying a comforting hand on my shoulder.
I want to object but know there is no point. Kristie helps me to my feet and escorts me to the kit room. "Hangover?"
"Definitely. I don't even think I drank that much."
"Grab a Gatorade on your way down. Should help with it." Kristie states as we stop at her door.
"Will do," I mumble as I walk back to my room and start changing. heading into the bathroom to look at myself. My eyebrow was an angry red with what seemed like the start of a nasty bruise around the scab. My jaw was a little gray but nothing badass well as a few other spots had just started to dust my face.
Once everything is cleaned up I head down into the lobby finding Kristie wedged between Sam and Emily. I walk up behind Kristie and place one hand on her shoulder. She turns and smiles lightly before rejoining the ongoing debate that Sam and Emily had started.
