Richie and I looked at each other and nodded. We stood up in the middle of Mr. Uris' talking and stepped over people legs as we tried to get out of our row.
"Sorry, excuse me." I said, stepping awkwardly over peoples legs. "Gotta go congratulate Stanley on his speech."
"Yeah, it was the best thing ever." Richie ruffled a man's hair on his way out. The man gasped angrily and stood up, shaking his fist while his wife made him sit back down, muttering "They're idiot kids it's not worth it."
People were glaring at us and we finally reached the doors. Stepping outside, we saw Stan sitting on a bench.
I ran up to him and threw my arms. "Oh Stanley I taught you so well!"
He laughed and hugged me back. "I know. I learned from the best."
Richie hugged Stan. "That was a really good speech Stan."
Stanley's father stalked out of the synagogue looking angry. "Stanley Uris we need to have a talk."
"And this is your cue to leave." Stan whispered to us.
Richie and I snuck away and went to our bikes.
"You came on your bike?" he asked me.
"I always use my bike, stupid." I replied, sitting on it.
"Yeah but you're wearing a fucking dress."
I shrugged. "So? It doesn't bother me."
We took off and started riding through town. "Where do you want to go?" he asked.
I circled around him. "The quarry?"
He grinned and we headed towards there. When we arrived, I took off my dress and shoes.
"What are you doing?" Richie asked.
I ignored him and jumped off the cliff and into the water. I shot out of the water and waved at Richie. "GET OVER HERE DIPSHIT!"
Richie took off his suit and jumped in after me. He plunged into the water and I waited for him to come out, but he didn't.
"Richie?" I asked. "RICHIE!"
I felt something grab my ankle and I screamed, thrashing around the water. It let go of me and Richie shot out, laughing at me.
"You fucking jerk!" I pushed him under the water.
He popped back out gasping. We giggled and looked at each other.
"Hey, October?" he said.
"Yeah Richie?"
"I'm still a virgin."
I cocked an eyebrow. "That was really random. And weird."
He flushed. "No, cuz that day when I made a joke about you all being virgins but not me. I was joking."
"I knew that." I grinned. "You thought you'd be the first Loser to loose their virginity?"
"Fuck off." he rolled his eyes.
I giggled. "But, why are you telling me this?"
He shrugged. "I don't know. I didn't want you to think it was true."
"I already knew it was a joke."
He sighed. "Okay okay! I get it! You think I can't score a girl." he flexed his skinny arms. "But I can with these."
"With those sticks for arms?" I pinched his arm.
"I hate you."
"I hate you too Tozier."
"We're not the Losers Club anymore." Richie said quietly, referring to me calling everyone The Loser's.
"Yeah....."
After we swam for awhile, we decided to head back home.
"Want to hang tomorrow?" he questioned, as we walked our bikes.
"Sure. You can meet me at my house?" I replied.
"Yeah, then we can go to the arcade."
I nodded. "Sounds like a date."
"What?"
I froze. "I mean plan! Or, like, a date cuz we set a date." I started blabbing." Y'know? I mean, I didn't mean like, a date date. That's weird. I wouldn't. I can't. What?"
He smiled. "You like me don't you."
"No." I shook my head frantically. "No way."
"Yeah you do." he taunted. "You're just afraid of admitting it."
"You wish."
Well shit. I did have a crush on Richie.
"Yeahhhh I'm pretty sure you do." he grinned as we reached my house.
"Bye Tozier." I started walking up the steps. "I'll see ya tomorrow."
"Bye my love! I will see you tomorrow for our very romantic arcade date!" he said, leaning down on one knee, placing one hand on his heart and the other stretched out towards me.
I couldn't help but burst out laughing as I shut the front door.
I rushed upstairs, feeling a surge of butterfly's in my stomach as I collapsed on my bed. I liked Richie. I officially liked him. And this was my first ever crush too. I grinned into my pillow. I really wanted to go over to Bill's house, but I knew he wouldn't want to talk to me.
I couldn't wait for tomorrow.
