Did I hear him right!?
"He said that?" I questioned skeptically. Danny nodded enthusiastically. "When?"
"Uhm...today..."
Oh, so it's-
"...and yesterday..."
Still relatively new feelings-
"...and the day before that, and the day before that, and the day before that, and-"
Oh.
"Alright, I see what you mean." I was shocked for sure, but the surge of warmth in my heart was undeniable.
"Your face is getting really red, miss Y/N."
"Y-Yeah. Just surprised." I smiled weakly, "Thank you for telling me."
He nodded, letting go of my hand to run over to his mom at the daycare pick-up entrance. I stayed put for a moment, mulling over my thoughts.
Sun loves me. He LOVES me! I felt woozy from the surge of emotions. I was happy, so happy, but another thought nagged at me.
Why didn't he tell me?
"Hey, Y/N!" Said a familiar voice. I looked up to see Chris, who gave a friendly wave as he approached, "Taking a break, I see?"
"A well-deserved break, mind you." I pointed at my food-stained clothes. He suppressed a grin.
"Mm, I see..."
"You can laugh, Chris."
He chuckled sheepishly. "No offense, but working with kids seems like a nightmare." He noticed the blemishes on my neck, "Uh, I hope you're not babysitting a vampire, you've got-"
"Yeah, I know..." It was my turn to be embarrassed as I tenderly put a hand on my neck; I had forgotten about the hickeys.
"Hey, don't worry about it. Management doesn't give a damn. If anything, I'm impressed you managed to sneak your boyfriend in here!"
Little did he know, nobody left or entered the pizzaplex to begin with.
"Heh, yeah...it wasn't easy!" I affirmed with a smile. There was no way I was going to tell him the truth.
"But hey, you know you don't always have to sneak him in, you know."
"What do you mean?" I questioned.
"You can go home a couple times a week. Fine print in the contract, I think it said three nights maximum."
Fuck that contract. As much as I would've liked to know that information earlier, I don't believe I would've gone home anyway; my real apartment was a shithole, and it was barren of Sun and Moon's company. I never thought I'd reach this point in my life, but I liked my work more than my own place.
I didn't want to leave. But I need my clothes... I was caught in a predicament, and the pizzaplex was bound to close soon.
"You think I could leave real quick and make it back?"
Chris shrugged. "I say give it a go. Mind if I walk with ya? I'm heading out."
I nodded, setting the pace at a brisk walk. "So, how's Monty?"
"Ah, he's good. Being his jerk self and all that." He laughed when I casted him a worried glance, "He's not that bad, actually- just gets grumpy every once in awhile." He paused for a moment, "If anyone's a jerk, it's my brother." He added jokingly.
"Your brother?"
"Yeah, I've got a twin. He doesn't look like me, though." He reached the front door to the pizzaplex, holding it open for me.
"That's pretty cool, actually!"
"Yeah, it's got its ups and downs, that's for sure." He slowed his pace to a stop once we reached his car, "Hey, it was nice to talk to you again, Y/N. I'll catch ya around!"
I nodded with a friendly smile. "Sounds good, see ya!"
As much as I enjoyed our conversation, I couldn't help but feel like I lost out on time as I clambered into my car.
It seemed like I couldn't drive fast enough; the minutes seem to flash by like seconds every time I glanced at the clock. Twenty minutes until lockdown.
It wasn't like my apartment was extremely far, but the stop lights didn't want to cooperate tonight- it seemed like every intersection changed to red. Just my luck.
I eventually reached my apartment complex, flying up the stairs to my room and fumbling with the key to get in. Of course, I dropped the keys, which evicted a slew of curses from my mouth as I snatched them up from the ground. I burst through the door, my eyes wildly darting around the room.
Clothes. I need clothes.
I wasted no time in grabbing a mound of clothes and shoving them into two small suitcases. A couple moments and a lot of struggling later, I managed to halfway zip up the bags with most of my clothes.
Good enough!
All I had to do now was grab my keys, check the clock, and-
Check the clock.
I hadn't been checking the clock.
I whipped my head around to peer at the stovetop clock.
12:06.
I didn't make it.
I groaned with frustration, dropping the messily packed bags.
"Fuck!"
