I furrowed my eyebrows; the way Sun spoke made it sound like this was a common thing- like he's done this before. Multiple times.
"Sunny?"
"Yes, sunbeam?" He was still laying next to me, mindlessly toying with the ribbons on his wrists.
"Do you watch me sleep...often?"
He blinked, realizing his mistake. "Er-Ah! N-No! Definitely NOT! That would be...bad..." he caught the look in my eyes and swallowed hard, "S-Sometimes."
"How come?" I wasn't necessarily surprised, honestly more curious than anything.
"I just, erm, I think-" Sun sputtered as he fought for the right words to say. "Y-You just look...peaceful. Vulnerable."
That last part caught me off guard; I glanced over, only to be met with an almost too-friendly grin.
"What are y-"
"Oh! Look at the time!" He chirped, effectively cutting me off as he stood up from the bed, "The kids will be here soon, I'll go tidy up!"
And with that, he disappeared with a leap over the balcony.
He's still being weird. There was definitely something wrong. Maybe Moon could check it out during naptime. I shrugged it off for later and prepared for the day. Luckily, Sun and Moon didn't have to work in the makeshift pants- it turns out they had found a spare, after all.
It seemed like the kids had saved their energy over the day off- it was absolute chaos. They weren't necessarily messy, but they all ran around like fun-sized crackheads. However, their overly hyper state resulted in a plethora of bumps, scrapes, and cuts from rocketing into everything. In other words, I was the stand-in nurse while Sun busied himself with distracting the horde.
I was bandaging up a kid's scraped knee when Sun decided to approach me, accompanied by a boy.
"Y/N, I'd like you to meet Tyler!" Sunny beamed at him before leaning in to whisper to me, "He has Tourette's, so don't mind his language! He's a great kid."
I nodded before focusing my attention to Tyler. "It's nice to meet you, I'm Y/N!" We both exchanged a friendly smile.
"He wants to tell you something, But he won't tell ME." Sun hissed into my ear, evoking a shudder from me. There it was again- that change of character. I decided to ignore it and dismiss Sun before dropping to the kid's level.
"Miss Y/N, is- I have glitter glue!- did you do something to Mister Sun?" He timidly shook his hands as he looked back at Sun.
"What do you mean? I don't think I have..." I admitted, somewhat puzzled by the question.
"I just think he- fuck!" He jerked his middle finger up at me, then flashed an apologetic glance before continuing, "He seems angry when he talks about you or the grown-ups."
I didn't want to freak out Tyler, so I decided to opt for a better explanation. I beckoned him to lean in close so I could whisper into his ear.
"I think he's just a little jeaaaaalous! I had to talk to a guy friend earlier today. I promise it's no big deal, though. But it's a secret!"
Tyler giggled, shaking his hands from the excitement of knowing a secret. "Okay!" He whispered back before running off. I chuckled, straightening back up to get back to work. I noticed Sun in the corner of my eye with a rather hostile expression on his face, which lingered for a mere second before he reverted to his usual self with the kids. It was off-putting; he was so sweet to the children, yet so cold when he talked with me.
I was relieved when naptime finally rolled around; it meant that I had a break from fixing boo-boos. I slumped back into a chair, needing a minute. Moon, on the other hand, could not stand to offer any patience with me. I heard a devious chuckle directly behind me, causing me to flinch.
"Ssstarlight..." purred the mischevious imp. He was definitely up to something, but I decided to strike first.
"I heard that you've got something to tell me."
"Oh?" He questioned, not quite catching on.
I nodded, continuing. "I also heard you were worried I wouldn't say it back."
His body went rigid. He knew I had heard him whispering at night, and he was caught.
"You shouldn't eavesdrop-" he started, a panicked tone mingling with his scold. As much as he didn't want to admit it, I knew he meant it.
"I love you too."
Moon immediately shut up, turning away as his cheeks heated to a rosy hue. "Yes...that." He wouldn't dare meet my eyes, but his hand slowly crept to mine. "Speaking of which..."
I looked over at him quizzically, only to be returned with a sly grin before he continued. "...I happen to show my...feelings...better than talking about them." He paused, meeting my gaze for a moment before continuing.
"Let me show you my love."
"Show?" I repeated, feeling the heat flush to my face. Moon nodded slowly, his hand moving from my hand to my thigh.
"I did some reading last night..." he mumbled into my ear, "and I made some...repairs..."
