Ever since Lisa and Jennie had that very memorable weekend full of sex, kisses and occasionally food, Jennie harboured a secret feeling.
She was now very aware of the fact that she had fallen head over heels in love with Lisa but she wasn't the type to say it first. Not at all. Her heart was battling her head on the issue at least once a day. Every time she saw Lisa, her heart would thump out the 'I love you' so hard, she was scared that Lisa might accidentally hear it.
But by saying it first, Jennie would make herself even more vulnerable and she still had days where she wasn't sure at all why Lisa wanted her in the first place. It was all just in her head though, because the Thai had never given Jennie a real reason to doubt. But this was the korean's first real relationship and being vulnerable was scary. Love was scary.
It was a sunny Thursday and Jennie had a big online exam later today. She was already really nervous and not sure wether she had managed to study enough. Working part time, attending online college classes and caring for her thirteen year old daughter was more than a full time job. The past two weeks had been quite strenuous due to Jennie's study schedule. Jennie had no idea when she would get to enjoy Lisa's company again for more than an hour before they went to bed. The new couple had hardly seen each other lately.
The korean woman's eyes flew over her study notes once more, a cup of coffee in her hand. It was her third cup and she was feeling a bit jittery. It was quite the strong brew too. Jennie had discovered that stressful college classes -even from home- and a growing coffee addiction went hand in hand.
She only had an hour left until the link to the exam would open. The schedule said it was a two hour exam and it was vital that Jennie passed this one, so she could move on to the next module. Which she needed to graduate.
Jennie was in the middle of re-reading a particularly tricky note card when suddenly her phone rang. The young mother looked down at it and her pulse spiked when she realized that it was Ella's school calling. She put the cup of coffee down faster than anything and picked up the call with an already racing heart.
"Jennie Kim speaking."
"Hi Miss Kim, this is Mrs Park from Sinsa Middle School."
"Uhm hi... something wrong with Ella?" Jennie immediately asked. Because the school never just called randomly.
"I'm afraid so. Ella complained about a stomach ache during class and was sent to the school nurse. It hasn't gotten better and we decided to send her home. There's a virus going around school and the nurse thinks Ella might have caught it. Is it possible for her to be picked up?"
Jennie's head spiralled. She was supposed to take her exam in less than an hour! But she would never make it to the school and back and get Ella settled in bed in time. She didn't even know how well Ella would do while driving if she really had a stomach virus.
