She watches the people around her
Trying not to let her anxiety get to her
She feels like everyone is staring
Do they know??
Do they know what's going on behind those closed doors??
Behind what's supposed to be safe for her
She covers up and hides
She doesn't want them to know
She cries her self to sleep every night
And fakes a smile every morning
She hides what's going on
She hides her tears from the outside world
Trying to not draw attention to her self
She doesn't want anyone to know about her
She doesn't want anyone to know ever
She wants to tell buts to scared
She's afraid of the outcome
What will people think if they know
What will happen behind those closed doors if she tells
She tries to tell someone but she can't trust them
She feels like a stranger to her own family even
Everyone notices the scars across her face the next day
The red marks that stain her cheeks
The scars that even she can't hide with a little makeup
She tells people she got attacked by a dog
She tells people that she's fine
That she'll be OK
That nothing is going on
People notice she's "getting attacked by dogs" quite frequently
They begin to question her
To watch her
She now goes to school with mascara running down her cheeks
With the "dog marks" on her face
And she comes clean
She tells the school cop what's going on
She tells him that her dad is hitting her
She tells him about the countless nights of crying herself to sleep
About all the times "she got attacked by a dog"
She reaches out to everyone who'll listen
To everyone that questioned her
When her dad finds out she's been talking he gets really mad
He hits her harder and makes her bleed
She cries and runs and denies every word she said before
She tells him that she's sorry
That she'll never say another word
He progresses more and throws things at her
She now goes to school covered in cuts and bruises
She will lie and say she's fine
Say she's OK
That she's not in pain
She wants help buts to scared for the outcome
She can't just leave her family
But she can't stay either
She wants to run
But thinks of her sister
She wants to lock him up
But thinks of her mother
She wants to end it all and just leave forever
But she loves her brother
She tries to stop him
But she just gets hurt more
He slaps her
Throws things at her
And beats her
But she still says that she'll be fine
She still covers her tear stained cheeks with makeup
She still covers her body with as much clothing as possible
She still hides what's going on
She still denies what she said before
She still cries every night before bed
And fakes a smile every morning
It turns into a routine
Wakes up
Cover the bruises
Fakes a smile
Goes to school
Lie about the scars
Go home
Get beaten
Eat dinner
Get yelled at
Do chores
Get beaten again
Cries herself to sleep
Why won't she admit being abused?
Why? Because she's scared of the outcome
If she tells what will happen to her sister?
Her brother, her mother?
But most of all what will happen to her?
