"Sir, we obtained Freddie Thorne liked you ask." Officer Jones spoke to Detective Campbell as he entered Campbell's office.
"Good job Jones. Any problems from the Shelby's?"
"Not really, sir. Their spitfire of an aunt tried to get in the way along with that daughter of hers, other than that, there were no problems in the slightest."
Campbell nodded, "Good, good. I've been researching into their family and there's no record of Mrs.Gray having any other children besides the two that were put into the system."
"I believe there's more there, Sir. As far as the daughter goes, I mean." Jones spoke while staying in place as Campbell paced around.
"Aye, I believe so to, Jones. What hunch do you have on Elizabeth and that child of hers?" He stopped infront of the officer.
"I maybe jumping the gun here, Sir, but I have reasons to believe Mrs. Gray's daughter is actually my missing child."
Campbell rubbed his beard while taking in the information his officer presented him with, "What makes you say that, Jones?"
"Tonight, sir. I saw the young girl wearing a necklace that looked like my wife's. No one else could have a matching one, it was one of a kind passed down for decades in her family. Her father gave it to me to propose to her with. I would know it anywhere."
"A necklace isn't enough of evidence there, Jones."
"That maybe true, Sir, but my wife was friends with Elizabeth Shelby when they were young. If she didn't leave my daughter with anyone else I suspected than it has to have been Mrs. Gray."
"There's no record of Mrs. Gray adopting a child."
"There's also no record of her giving birth to a third child either, Sir. If Mrs. Gray's daughter is mine, than I want her back. She needs to be with her family, her actual family. Not some gangsters that will only get her killed, Sir."
Campbell sat down and thought for a minute before coming up with a plan. "Jones, you're a good man. I will look into everything I can to find evidence of your suspicions being correct. If they are, then we will take the proper steps to bring your little girl home."
"Thank you, Sir. You don't know how much this means to me." Jones spoke very monotoned no emotions to be heard anywhere in his voice.
"Of course. You are one of my finest men, but you are not to cause any trouble or take matters into your own hands for the time being, understood? We don't want to give those bastards anything to use against you if the young girl is actually your missing daughter, got it?"
Jones nodded, "Yes, Sir. You have my word."
Campbell lit his pipe, "Very good. You are dismissed. Have a good rest of your evening."
"You too, Sir." Jones spoke as he exited the room.
A few weeks later
Tommy declared today was not a day for knocking. Polly was up saying the prayers she used to say every day while the boys were at war. He promised after today everything would change. Campbell still hung around the family even after he completed his mission of finding the stolen guns that were accidentally picked up by Tommy's men when there were supposed to steal some motor vehicles. It was believed the IRA might've taken them but with a little help from a certain blonde spy, Campbell figured out everything. Yet, he still was hanging around the Shelby family. Officer Jones however had stayed hidden. Starlene would see him from time to time while out with her mother, her cousins, or one of her body guards that her mother demanded she have. But, the copper left her alone, surprisingly.
