The Way Down

{Omniscient PoV}

The sun rose above the old Denim Factory, bringing its light, warmth and confort with it. The living people started to wake up and start their day, just like any other day in this chaotic life, whereas two other members of the group opened their eyes to something new.

Alicia and Y/N spent the night together as it started to become a thing for them to fall asleep in each other's arm, warmth and confort. Since her fellow partner died not long ago, Y/N found more confort in Alicia than she ever did. The young woman stood by her side since the incident, she was there for her in all the ways possible and she hasn't left any minute and she wasn't willing to.
The sun's rays coloured Y/N vision from her remaining closed eyes red, slowly starting to wake up, capturing the environment around her at her pace, with the main piece of being Alicia's face incredibly close to hers which became her only environment for a moment. She did not make a sound or move, she stayed there, letting this warming feeling overwhelming her, bringing a smile on her lips while gazing to her saviour.
-Are you staring at me sleeping?
-Hum, no, I just woke up, I'm... waking up!
And with that, she opened her eyes, revealing her light green eyes enlightened by the sun piercing through them, creating an ocean of the different green variations inside. They stayed for a few, simply looking at each other, enjoying the silence, their company and closure.
-We should wake up completely don't you think?
Alicia confessed, breaking their confortable silence.
-Yeah... Sure, of course!
Y/N said, a hint of disappointment in her eyes, not wanting to leave this little moment that seemed endless to her.

Weeks has passed has the early September's days settled. Grief is still a big part of Y/N days but she started to live with it as she learned to years ago when she lost her mother and brother but it wasn't has hard as it was when she was alone because today, she isn't anymore. She stayed with the group, with a roof upon her head, people taking care of each other and mainly Alicia. She became more and more important to her as she was to her as well. They spent a lot of time together, talking, going on supplies run, doing the chores and many things that had to be done at the factory. Something in the atmosphere, their atmosphere did change. Looks lasting a little longer than they should, standing next to each other during meetings, sitting next to each other or opposite at dinner time, glancing at each other's mora than their dinner, always making room for the other to have a proper talking time, listening closely to what the other has to say, protecting, taking care of the other in a way they only know, smiling more than usual when the other is around. All these small details brightening their day is now their routine.

On a typical night, Y/N offered Alicia to lay beside her in the small bed that was no longer too small for them. A smile appeared on Alicia's lips, one of Y/N's favorite moment of the day: seeing her smile, even if it was rare and shy. She opened the covers to invite her in, sharing their warmth once again. Their eyes locked as usual, not being able to look away.
-I know I'm saying that all the time but... Thank you for being here...
-Don't worry it's fine!
-I don't know where I would be today, either physically or mentally but mostly mentally... if anything happened to him before I would simply just let myself die I think...
She was looking at her carefully, showing all the emotions she was feeling through her green eyes.
-So thank you...
She said in a husky voice, afraid to be too loud, for the others to hear, afraid that this moment could belong to someone else than just them.
To this point, she knew, Y/N how hard she fell for Alicia, how difficult it was to hide it everyday, how she was resisting to not hold her hand, hug her longer than friends do, kiss her with all the passion she has for her. So she did. She closed the thin gap between them and pressed shyly her lips to hers. They were soft, full and plump, scared as well. It was brief, like a teenage kiss after a first date before going hom. When she pulled away, her eyes screamed for a reaction from Alicia.
-I'm sorry... I shouldn't have done that...
With a slight visible panic, Alicia brought her hand on her cheek, calming her down immediately.
-It's okay... I... I just couldn't respond to it because... I... I'm not sure if I can pay the price of love today...
She looked hurt, she never knew she could her hurt one day but she did. She understood her statement but at the same time, this world is so fucked up that maybe it was exactly the right thing to do.
-I... okay... I'm sorry I thought maybe you reciprocated...
-I do... and I think a lot but we both know we lost so much and I don't want to hurt each other more than we already did... I'm sorry Y/N...
-Okay...
Was the only thing she could say back to her. She didn't even have the strength to tell her she wanted to be alone so Alicia waited her to fall asleep to go back to hers and overthink the whole situation the whole night.

The following morning, Y/N was already gone when Alicia woke up. She went to the dinning area where she met Luciana drinking coffee as well as she sat in front of her, a cup in her head.
-Ohhh that's a very not good looking face this morning! Is there something wrong?
-No don't worry...
-Come on Alicia, Y/N had the exact same and said the same thing!
-I huh... Last night as we were about to fall asleep in her bed she hum... Made a move and kissed me...
-WHAT?! NO WAY?! And so??? How was it after all this time?
-What do you mean?
-Oh come on Alicia... We all saw it! We all saw there was something more between the two of you since she arrived!
She was too surprised that everybody noticed but her.
-And how was it?
-That's the thing... I told her I couldn't, we lost so much, I don't wanna hurt us if something bad happens to us...
-You know, being afraid of your past isn't going help or neither guide your future. When I fell in love with Nick, it was the greatest thing that ever happened to me since a very long time, so if you truly have feelings for her, live what you have to live! Or you're both going to regret it the day something happens as you say!
Alicia was listening closely to Luciana but as she finished, she paused for a second before asking.
-Where is she now?
-She's getting ready with Morgan to go on a supply run by the fence.
As she finished her sentence, she stood up and walked to to fence, seeing the car with both Morgan and Y/N getting ready.
-Hey!
-Oh hey...
She tried to sound as joyful as she could despite hurting to see the girl she loves, not being able to love her.
-Can we talk for a minute?
-Huh...
-Sorry Alicia we're leaving!
Said Morgan interrupting their conversation.
-I'm sorry...
-When you're coming back then?
-Of course, yes!
With that, she entered the truck on the passenger's seat, her window wide open as Alicia stood by it.
-Be careful okay?
-I'm always careful!
She said with a smile, the engine starting to roar as Morgan started it.
-See you later!
-See you!
People opened the fence, letting the car getting lost in the middle of Texas as long as they need...
