There isn't much you remember about your life after leaving your parents. In a way it's like the heartbreak of leaving the only two people who ever knew you forced you to erase any and all painful memories. You do remember Melina though - such a sweet girl. She had helped you find a home in the outskirts of the Snezhnaya capital where little to no wanderers passed, she introduced you to her grandpa who had taught you all about surviving without the modern society, she kept you company on lonesome days and warmth on freezing nights.

She was the only one who you could trust, and the only other person who knew of what you were, what you were born to be.

The fact that she stayed even after knowing what your future could mean for her safety meant everything to you. Perhaps that's also why you left her, knowing you two could have very well either hid together or ran away together.

If you had taken her with you when you ran away from Snezhnaya would things have gone differently? You wouldn't have been able to afford two Liyue citizenships but maybe you could have taken her to Mondstadt - the nation of freedom, wasn't it?

You're thankful you didn't make her any long shot promises before you left.

When Beidou informed Ningguang of Beisht emerging from the sea for revenge, she never thought about the consequences of unplanned attacks.

It was spontaneous and immediate, the way the sky turned grey and the body of a mystical enemy arose to the sky.

She was late from what they predicted - Beidou and Ningguang were reader to fight days ago, so the sudden attack was nearly unexpected. That's the only reason Beidou wasn't surprised when she found your unconscious body laying in the middle of a deserted street.

The only sound other than the howling winds and crashing waves was the heels that clicked behind her - slow and steady but still moving towards her quickly. "I told you to warn them about this earlier."

The captain rolled her eyes, leaning her weight on one leg as she turned to Ningguang and crossed her arms. Ningguang's brow raised as she balanced her iconic pipe in her hand.

"Don't blame this all on me. The attack was late, later than we could have expected, I had no time to warn them."

"You had several days, actually." A sigh left the lips of the silver haired woman, knowing she won't be getting anywhere by arguing with the stubborn pirate. "This is why they should have just come work for me."

"Are you saying my ship isn't safe for them?"

"I'm saying" she glared at Beidou. "that they would have been well informed about these events in the chamber. You let your emotions get in the way of business."

"Business?" Beidou couldn't help but scoff. "You're the one sending people to spy on them in the city yet here you are talking to me about business!"

"That... that was for their own safety." Ningguang frowned, never having expected Beidou of all people to have noticed such a detail. It was for your own safety, security and guards that she trusted keeping an eye out for you - everything she did beyond that was up to debate.

"Safety my ass." Beidou rolled her eyes again, turning away from the woman and nearing your unconscious body. Her worn hands trailed over your skin, cheeks and shoulders. You were cold compared to her, or maybe her hands were unbearably warm after getting rope burn on the ship and your skin was the same as always.

Either way, she hooked her arms beneath your legs and your arms before hoisting you up, turning and nodding to Ningguang. "You're just as bad as I am when it comes to the business we have going on here. I'm not to blame for mutual mistakes."

Ningguang watched as the pirate left with the escapee in her arms, disappearing through post battle fog. She hummed, turned, and left in her respective direction.

Thankfully, Beidou's ship had only suffered some minor damages - the biggest burden being the abundance of salt water that had splashed onto the deck of the ship during the attacks. Nothing they couldn't handle, as from what Beidou knew, her crew was cleaning off the water just as she was walking back, but annoying regardless.

Looking down, she unclenched her jaw and relaxed her shoulders, watching your face for any sign of consciousness. None. Not that she minded - you would have probably stubbornly fought against returning to the safety of her ship. She only prayed that her crew would finish clearing off the water soon, she'd much rather lay in bed with you than clean.

Turning the rusty doorknob of her bedroom, the door was slowly and quietly shut as if the sound of a pin drop would be enough to wake up the unconscious body within the room. Kazuha had noticed this, how beidou seemed to be either extra cautious or extra prepared around you - something that was unusual for the spontaneous captain.

"Beidou." He nodded, meeting her halfway in the corridor of the bedrooms.

When she had arrived with you in her arms, she made a strict beeline towards her own room, not once stopping to answer the worried questions about your well-being and situation. She had brushed him off too - which was strange considering she knew just how close his friendship was with you - but he excused her thinking she was only worried.

From what he had heard, romantic feelings tend to make you hyper fixated on a person - maybe she was just worried about her crush.

"Yeah?" She hummed, motioning for him to walk with her towards the kitchens.

"Are they okay? I didn't see them on the ship during the fights."

Her boots clicked against the wooden floors loudly as if every step were laced with stress and frustration. "Yeah. I found them unconscious in the harbour, they seem fine but it wouldn't be surprising if they woke up sick."

"The harbour?" Kazuha's brows furrowed. "I thought they had evacuated everyone though."

"Apparently not everyone. They were alone so maybe the Millelith missed them."

"You really think so?"

She said nothing, opting to look straight ahead as they pushed open the swinging door of the lunch room. He sighed.

"Well, so long as they're safe."

Safe at home.
