My room... it had a habit of playing tricks on me.
Sometimes when I woke, it would have re-arranged itself as I slept. It did just this this morning, and it took me thirty minutes to find my way to the door.
I guess that's what I get for being a shapeshifter... a room that shapeshifts too. When I finally reached the exit and turned around to look at it, there was an air of guilt in the walls and floor.
"Please," I said with a meek beg, looking at the playful nature of my room, "Just stay the same for ONE night!"
I could hear the tiles cackling as if in laughter and I sighed out exasperated, leaving the room and heading to breakfast.
The house felt new after all that had happened in the last few weeks. I mean, I wasn't there for a lot of the drama, but I could definitely see the aftermath. I honestly thought the magic would be gone forever, but the miracle returned and gave us all back our gifts...
Except not all of us, I have to actually make clear.
Like my father and uncle have none (must be a Madrigal by blood) and my dear Abuela also was gifted with nothing.
But then there was the curious case of my cousin Mirabel.
Yes, just like previously mentioned, she didn't get a gift EVEN though she had Madrigal blood running through her veins. I used to feel sorry for the girl, but over time everyone had just accepted that she was great at other things... just not magic.
Speaking of which. I entered the kitchen and the tiles swept over a cup of hot coffee to me. I picked it up at the handle and took a gulp, feeling the liquid energizing me in moments. I grinned and shapeshifted into a big muscular man, my muscles and bones twitching at the shift. I bulked up my two huge arms by the side, looking at my reflection in the sink and grinning like a goofy idiot to myself.
"Don't try to be something you're not."
I quickly shifted back to my original form and saw Isabella looking at me with a flat expression on her face, not amused one bit at my antics.
"Well, maybe you should try to be something YOU'RE not." I said back in a little spite and she just huffed at me, annoyed, "Like BE NICE for once."
"I am nice!" She said back, very frustrated by me, and went over to the counter, the house handing her a white cup of hot tea, "Sometimes, a person just has to be cruel to be kind,"
"You'd know that for sure," I murmured under my breath and she tensed up in a tight stance, spinning around to look at me but I was already running out the room in a small giggle, knowing I had gotten the last word in.
I reached the dining room, finished my coffee with another gulp, and took my place at the table, the side my immediate family always sat at.
I saw my sister Dolores come over, a big giddy grin on her face and I realized quickly that she had seen her Lover Boy, Mariona. I had a feeling she would end up marrying this guy, considering she had been pining over him for so long, that when they finally DID get together it was like a done deal.
She sat next to me and whispered in my ear.
"Isabella is very annoyed at you,"
I shrugged my shoulders quickly asking back with a grin, "Is that anything new?"
She smirked herself, and soon the table was set with bread and fruits. My side of the family all took their respective seats and my aunt's side of the family took theirs opposite us.
I was actually facing Isabella again, and she only scowled at me, her thick eyebrows low on her brow. I grit my own teeth in response, and as a tease, turned into a shapeshifted version of her. She gasped, as I stuck out my tongue but my father nudged me hard on the arm, making me shift back to my normal self as he said.
