My chores were over pretty fast, as fast as they came. I found myself wandering around the village looking for Mirabel. I needed her help in finding out who the woman I had shapeshifted into actually was – seeing she was the only one knowing that "Maria" was me.
As I walked on the brick pavement going through the centre of town I happened to catch a glimpse of Isabella who was looking which way and that, looking for something... or maybe, someone?
"Maria?!" I heard her shout and I almost wanted to laugh at her clueless knowledge that Maria was actually me, "Maria?!"
"Who you looking for, cous?" I asked with a grin, strolling over to her, inconspicuous, I hoped. She dropped her shoulders and looked my way, a big heavy frown on her ruby lips.
"My new friend, Maria!"
I paused in my stroll and with a hidden smile, approached her casually and asked, "Did she see your ugly face and run it?"
"HA HA." She said back bitterly and sighed out heavily as she continued, "She said she 'had to go', but no one spends that long in the bathroom!"
"Speak for yourself," I said with a smirk and she only shoved me annoyed.
"If you see her, tell her I'll be at our casita, okay, Camilo?"
I nodded my head, still very cheerful in myself and she only rolled her eyes exasperated before leaving the scene and storming home, very disappointed in her situation. I mean, why was she so eager to befriend this woman, Maria? I honestly couldn't grasp it.
"Camilo!"
I bounced back to the moment and saw Mirabel waving at me to come to her. She was just at the library and I strolled on over there, my hands in my pants' pockets, keeping quite a casual air and looked over myself.
"Yes, Mirabel?"
"You shouldn't be messing with Isabella like that."
"Huh, she deserves it."
Mirabel frowned heavily at me, folding her arms and clearly very disappointed. When I saw her annoyed expression I sighed heavily and dropped my shoulders down, adding disheartened.
"Fine. I'll come clean tonight."
"GOOD." Mirabel said, a smile slipping up her lips now, "But Camilo, I have to show you something,"
"What?" I snapped, still annoyed at Mirabel for ruining my fun. She smiled wider and waved me into the stone building that was the library. I came in and wandered through the building till Mirabel held out her arm to stop me and just nudged her head over to the history corner.
"What are you trying to show me?"
She pulled out a big heavy book and flipped the pages to one near the back. She then held the page up to me and after I'd seen it, my eyes dropped opened in disbelief.
There she was, the woman I had shifted into earlier today. 'Maria'.
Except this picture had been taken nearly fifty years ago. It was black and white and she had a big smile on her lips. But... but, when had I ever seen this picture? Known about her if she had never crossed my path before?!
"Well?" Mirabel said, an excited look on her face and the librarian only shushed her from her desk. Mirabel glanced over quickly, whispering to me then, "Well...?"
"What's her name?" I whispered back and we looked at the written text under the old photo.
"It doesn't say," Mirabel whispered and I quickly came over to the woman at the desk, plopping the book on it and saying.
