New Fear

I had been here for about two weeks now with Caleb.

The two of us were slowly wasting away in the cell. Every day was the same and the repetition was getting boring, not to mention difficult.

We would be taken from our cell into the room where Jeanine was waiting to test my mind and find out what made me different from the rest of the population. She had picked through the deepest, darkest parts of my brain in the past two weeks.

She had not only accomplished some serious note taking skills, but also fueled a deep hate in me for her.

Every time I showed even the tiniest sign of resistance, she would make the guard threaten Caleb's life.

The scared look on his face every time she did this was like a stab to my heart.

Today was day seventeen according to my scratches on the wall. It was no different than any other day either.

The guards took us to the room in which Jeanine was waiting. I went over to the same old chair and sat down. Jeanine gave me a superior smile. A black wire stabbed me in the neck and I blacked out.

This was a different sim than I had ever seen before. I mean, it wasn't a different sim, but it was a different scenario than I had lived before.

I knew it was a sim right away. I had been getting better and better at recognizing a sim until I could tell the difference between real life and sims right away.

Jeanine stood in the center of a large white room. She had that evil superior look plastered on her face.

"Hello Aurelia."

"Jeanine," I responded curtly.

"You are a problem," she began her same old speech again.

"You are a problem and a danger to society. I will find a solution to the problem you pose or I will eliminate you as a problem as well as all who believe you to be superhuman or any of the like."

An image of Caleb's face appeared on the wall behind Jeanine.

"Unless you do exactly as I say, you, him, and everyone you love will be wiped of the world. None of you will be remembered." Jeanine's voice was cold, like frozen daggers.

With a scream I ran and tore at her face. The sim ended just like that and I was back in the room with the real Jeanine and the real Caleb.

I realized in that moment that I had developed a new fear. One of Jeanine and the control she held over me.

If there was one thing I hated it was to be powerless.
