I'm not sure when I fell asleep, but I did, and when I awoke we were parked behind a random fast food restaurant. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and looked out the window, taking note of how dark it was. "Look who's awake," Aunt Mary teased from her seat. She was flipping through a magazine, with the radio playing a soft jazz tune.
"Will should be back soon," She turned around and faced me. "I'm gonna go help him carry the food while you stay here." I nodded and she went out of the car. I yawned, still feeling the groggy, I decided to get out of the car and get some fresh night air.
I stretched my body a little, hoping to relieve some of the aches I got from sitting for a long time. It was quite satisfying to hear the pops when I turned my body sideways. Leaning against the car's frame, arms folded on my chest, I tried once again to digest everything that had happened so far. Magic is real, there's a school that teaches it. And I'm moving to a town full of people that uses magic on a day to day basis and my mom . . .
I groaned. This was not how I imagined my senior year going.
I decided that it'd be better if I went back inside the car, but before I could, and before I realized it, I was flying across the parking lot. My body slammed onto the building and I fell on the ground, my head making contact with it first. Stars clouded my vision as I tried to sit up and get ahold of myself.
I had no idea what had happened, it was as if an invisible hand had picked me up and flung me across the lot.
My ears were ringing, making it harder to find my bearings. I blinked repeatedly, trying to clear my vision, and when it did, I saw a hooded figure approaching me. The hood itself was ominous enough that all my senses rang danger. The person was at least six feet tall and had a bulky figure. I picked myself up and tried to stand, using the wall beside me as a crutch. "W- Who are you?" My voiced sounded rough and my breath was heavy.
"I thought I sensed one of you here," A man's voice answered. "Out in the open, without any sort of masking or protection on you," He laughed maniacally. "I thought you were cocky, but it turns out you're just stupid." He was getting closer now, only a few kilometers away.
"Who are you?" I repeated, more firmly.
He clicked his tongue, "If you value your life, you should just give up the Key." He took off his hood and that revealed a man who seemed like he was around his thirties. He looked as much of a maniac as I thought he would, except more as he had a scar that ran down the left side of his eye. "I really hate cleaning up blood, though I suppose it doesn't really matter if you died."
I gulped, I was in some deep shit.
He raised his hand and a fiery red ball appeared above his palm, in the dark of the night, the fire made the stubble on his face darker and the murderous glint in his eyes more apparent as it grew larger and brighter. I was afraid that it would catch the attention of the bystanders, but I realized that the only car there was ours. And two others that must've been the worker's cars.
First, my dad and then mom. And now, me. What a fitting ending for the Lakewood's.
"For the Tyrant!" He raised his hand and flung the fireball in my direction. Instinctively, I raised both of my hands to protect myself from the incoming impact. But nothing. I opened my eyes slowly, and they widened as I soon realized that I was surrounded by a glass like dome.
"Lay a hand on him and you'll be sorry," An angry Aunt Mary said a few meters away from my right, and even from here I could see that her eyes were glowing bright purple. She turned to me and the worry in her eyes rose, "Are you hurt?" I shook my head and the worry seemed to lessen a bit. It turned to anger as she faced my attacker once again.
