William woke up at the crack of dawn, got dressed and ordered his men to gather their belongings. He let Evelyn sleep up until around eight in the morning. When it came time to wake her up, William quietly made his way into her quarters and knelt down before gently shaking her awake "Evelyn, it's time to go" He whispered as her eyes opened "It's time to go, pack whatever you want to take with you"
"Alright..." she sleepily mumbled and closed her eyes, falling asleep once again. Adorable.
William warmly smiled and brushed the golden curtain of her hair over her ear "Come on my dear, my men will get jealous"
"Hmm" then she slowly sat up, causing her shift to show, revealing most of her cleavage. William cleared his throat and tried his best to keep his eyes from wandering to the soft mounds of her breasts "I'll be outside in five minutes"
He nodded before standing "You'll be riding with Stephan, if there is an ambush, I'll be the first target"
"Okay" she noticed she was only in her shift and quickly covered herself "I'm so sorry!" Evelyn squeaked and quickly threw the blanket around herself, causing William to stifle a laugh.
"Don't apologise" He turned on his heel and started to make his way out of the tent "I'll leave you to get dressed, I'll be sat around the campfire"
"I'll meet you there"
Then he left her and made his way back to his men. But when he sat down, he couldn't wait to see Evelyn emerge from her tent. Although his men tried to make conversation, he was too busy looking back and forth between them and Evelyn's tent.
And when she emerged, she looked, dare he say it, beautiful. She looked around for a short while before finding William in the crowd of men. Once she was by his side, she smiled and said "When do we leave?"
"Right now" he muttered before turning away from her "Right you lot shut it, we'll be there by dawn tomorrow so get your arses on your horses and move out!" William shouted. Most of his men just nodded and continued with their conversations while walking towards their horses "You and Stephan will be at the front with me, I have an extra canteen for you as well" he quickly listed and gave her the metal canteen.
Evelyn held the canteen in her hands "Thank you William"
"You're very welcome, now Stephen will be here shortly, he's going to keep you safe otherwise I'd personally kill him"
"I've been able to fend for myself for around five-ish years, don't threat"
"There is no need for you to fend for yourself anymore, especially when you're under my protection"
She blushed and bit her lip slightly "Thank you...again"
When the cavalry was ready, he ordered for them to move out. But every so often, he would look back and check on Evelyn to make certain that she was alright. But when she caught his eyes, He got embarrassed and looked away. By sunset, his men started complaining about their saddles being too hard. After around an hour of negotiations with Stephen, William finally gave in and ordered his men to make camp. His men dismounted their horses and quickly made their temporary homes, although William could only focus on Evelyn who was sitting solo on a fallen tree.
He poured some stew from the cook pots into a bowl and walked over towards her "May I?" William mumbled and Evelyn looked up in surprise.
"Of course" she smiled slightly and looked over the small stream. William glanced at her and noticed her tear stained cheeks.
"whatever is wrong?" he asked and gently tilted her chin up.
"I'm just thinking..."
"A problem shared is a problem halved in the end" He smiled and noticed that she was shivering, without any hesitation, he put the bowl on his lap and took off his coatee and wrapped it around her shoulders.
"You've shown me more kindness in a single day, than anyone has shown me in the last few years" She shook her head and looked up at him "I'm just happy that's all"
William offered her the bowl of stew and smiled when she took it "I hope you like it"
"Thank you" Evelyn started eating and when she finished, she placed the bowl on the ground and looked up at him "Is there any sentries?"
"I have seven guarding the area, you'll be safe" he looked up at the sky and mumbled "We also have him watching us"
"You're religious?"
"Yes and no" he reached into his shirt and pulled out a metal cross on a silver beaded chain "I believe in heaven but then again, I can't be certain, no one can" William took it off and showered her the back of the cross "Deo et patriae" he muttered and gently stroked the metal.
"For God and Country?"
"You speak Latin?"
"and French" she smiled and looked up at him "Tu es l'homme le plus gentil que j'ai rencontré"
"Merci" William smiled and stared into her eyes "Tu es beau"
"merci" she went a deep red and looked to the side for a moment.
He glanced down at her lips and smiled before staring into her eyes "Puis-je?"
"Oui"
He let out a nervous sigh and got a little closer to her "Magnifique" William smiled before sweetly kissing her on the lips. She smiled into the kiss and wrapped her arms around him "you are an angel" sitting up, he whispered against her lips "You are my angel"
Evelyn blushed a deep ruby colour and pecked his lips "And you're my colonel in shining armour?" she asked, although he knew himself that she thought he was.
William nodded slightly and cupped her cheek before capturing her lips once again, only this time it was more passionate. He only pulled away when he heard a twig snap behind them, immediately he pulled out his flintlock and looked to the side "Good god man, I'm on your side!" Stephen half-shouted and looked William up and down, then he saw Evelyn all flustered on the fallen tree "Oh...I'll leave you to your business" With those words he turned around and walked back towards his men.
William looked back at Evelyn and started chuckling "I'm terribly sorry for that" he mumbled and put his gun back in its holster.
"I'm sure that you can make it up to me" She bit her lip slightly.
"I'm sure I can" he smirked and made his way back to her.
