Evelyn glanced to the side and smiled at the man that laid beside her. She sat up and looked out the window, almost gasping at how beautiful the view was. The sun was just beginning to show on the horizon and the sky was brilliant pink streaked with orange. Thick gold clouds were gathering overhead and that was an unfortunate sign of a storm. She looked over at William, who was still asleep on the other side of the bed. The first slivers of light from the sunrise shone on his face through the window, making his disheveled brown hair gleam with gold.
William was anything but restful during his sleep, He moved and kicked the blankets, muttered and turned around. Evelyn had discovered that in the very early hours of the morning. He was muttering the same sentences 'help...' 'Father please!' it hurt to think what tragedies he had endured.
Poor muffin...
She looked to the side and quietly got out of bed, leaving her lover asleep. Evelyn quickly rushed to the window and witness the early morning sunrise. She picked up her chamber coat and wrapped it around her shoulders to keep her warm. Then she looked back at her man, who was still fast on, and smiled. He looked much younger in his sleep, despite the growing silver at his temples and in his stubble.
I'm so lucky!
She smiled and turned to face the window once again, glancing down at the few rows of small white tents of the lower ranking dragoons "Come back to bed, it's freezing without you" William sleepily spoke, causing her to turn around in surprise.
"It would be seen improper, will it not?"
"Oh not at all, having a man in your bed isn't scandalous" he smirked and got out of bed, walking up to her and wrapping his arms around her waist "Especially when said man is a Colonel in the British army"
"I know, definitely not scandalous at all" William was the first to break into a snigger, closely followed by Evelyn.
"Hmm, I stand by my word, the bed is so much colder without you in it"
"Well I'm sure you'll be able to find warmth in a different way"
"but I'll not be able to show passion until this evening" He pouted and lifted her up into his arms "I'll have withdrawals" Evelyn rested her hands on his shoulders and rested her forehead against his "I'm afraid it will be near impossible for me to stay away"
"oh? Too bad"
"Eila, you wound me" William puckered his lips and looked down "fatally...I feel as I will die"
Evelyn tilted his chin up and pecked his lips "Don't you dare die on me mister"
he hitched her upwards and held onto her tightly "Don't let go of me then" William mumbled and brought her into a soul-melting kiss "Now, you were correct, I do need to continue my duties, but I don't want to leave you"
"Well, I have nothing to do"
"Will you take breakfast with me and my officers? Maybe dinner? Maybe even supper?"
She let out a small laugh and nodded "Very well, but I think I shall start some embroidery" Evelyn smiled and brushed his hair over his shoulder "or maybe sew the hole in your coatee, the one on your collar and shoulder"
"if you wish to do that, I may lend you it" He kissed her cheek and walked over towards the bed, gently laying her down "Be careful, I can't kiss every needle prick better"
"Oh stop being romantic!" she blushed a slight pink. William dipped his head down and captured her lips once again, humming softly until he pulled away "and get dressed, you need to attend your duties!"
