Chapter 4

Alice's POV
Only a handful had left and I knew I was going to be one of the last ones out simply due to being at the back.

As people were slowly leaving I noticed the king was getting further stressed. He seemed to look as if he was losing his sanity. His eyes were panicked going crazy amongst all us looking for something or someone.

The guy I was hiding behind turned to me with a weird look "Are you ok?" He asked.

"Well I was scared sorry. I just didn't want the kings eyes on me." I said explaining releasing a breath.

He let out a chuckle before responding while walking "I understand."

As we were the last ones walking out I felt a hot sensation on the back of my head. Almost like I was being watched intensely.

"No, don't leave." I heard a deep rough grumble voice which made me freeze. Was that aimed towards me?

A male officer then stated with no emotion "Miss Black, it seems he wants you here."

That made me spin around quickly and face towards them. They were quite far away still.

The officer then went on to speak "It seems that you're the first person he hasn't growled at or attempted to attack."

That earned a growl from the king.

"Woohoo! Is that supposed to make me feel special or safe?" I replied to the officer my tone dripped with sarcasm.

There was a noise almost like a grumble from the king. Almost like a laugh like? Nope. This is the vampire king we're thinking about after all.

I teared my gaze from the officer and placed it on the king who seemed to already be staring at me. It was weird, it was if he was staring at me like I was some type of treasure or prized possession.

"Urmmm" was the only thing that left my mouth.

The officer seemed really pleased. "You should be his first ever personal guard! I'll go and get the papers with the details you need to know!" She explained enthusiastically like this was a miracle.

My eyes nearly bulged out the back of head while I replied too quickly raising my voice "Noo!!" But the officer had already left me alone with this scary guy or should I say scary vampire.

The king didn't like this. He didn't growl however a noise which sounded like a whimper left his chest as he whined on.

I tilted my head at him with a confused expression, I noticed his voice was deep very deep as he said but it sounded as if he was speaking to himself "Mate doesn't want us or to be around us." His voice seemed to be laced with pain?

"Are you okay urm king Azron?" I sounded like an idiot but I didn't know how to address him especially with him being royalty he could get mad if I don't bow so I decide to do a small bow kneeling a bit.

He just looked at me, he then tried to move closer since I was standing more or less at the other side of the room which resulted in heard the chains rattle at his attempt "Don't kneel darling, queens don't kneel, unless you want to take my cock." His voice came out as a grumble with fire in his eyes. He cleared his throat and made some weird noise I wasn't sure if it was a growl from his chest or stomach.

"Are you hungry?" I asked in a light tone.

He shook his head "No darling, not for food anyway." His voice was hoarse and raspy but still deep.

"Urmm..." I was starting to feel uncomfortable so I played with my hair while waiting for the officer to return.

"Why are you standing so far away?" He grumbled my way while watching me sternly before demanding "Come closer!"

I laughed like really laughed.

"Yeah right, you just want to attack me! Well I know karate!" It was true, my brother taught me at a young age.

He flinched, like physically flinched I heard the metal chains shake slightly also.

When he looked up his eyes show a hurt expression towards me. "No." He replied lowly his voice was a whisper.

Before we could continue our conversation I jumped when the metal door swung open revealing the male officer with a file.

I glanced at the file before motioning towards the vampire king before asking with humour "You were being serious?"

The officer shook his head before begging "Please, this is the first time he's ever reacted this way. He's usually threatening and tries to kill the humans."

My jaw dropped "What part of that was supposed to convince me?!" I exclaimed.

All of a sudden I heard a whimper bounce of the walls reminding me of the distressed vampire in this room.

I turned to see the creatures eyes changing from the usual black from gold and red.

WHAT THE HECK.

"FRICKKK!!"

"HIS EYES!" I screamed in shock and undisguised terror.
