PLANET EARTH

MARCH, 2023

"Mia? Are you okay?"

Jungkooks' words stick in her mind. She is frozen in place.

Mia doesn't know what to do. The pain in her chest that normally visits after her nightmares is back - this time in bone-shattering force.

She is vaguely aware of Jungkook calling her name, but she can't respond.

Not when the man she was in love with - was convinced was the love of her life a few months ago - is kissing another women twenty yards away.

The pair are locked in a heated embrace, entirely unaware of their audience. Jaehyun's hand is at the nape of her neck, the other winding down her hip, and although she is too far away to hear, Mia just knows what it sounds like when he moans softly into this mystery woman's mouth.

She has a vague recollection of Jaehyun kissing her in this exact way a thousand times. The realisation that she is nothing special to him - was never anything special to him - is like a sucker punch to the gut.

It is too much for her to take.

Now, Jungkook is tugging her arm gently, placing his other hand on her back and leading her down the street, until they are safely away from Jaehyun, who is still kissing the other woman - who hasn't noticed her, who has never noticed her-

And she is furious at him, for moving on, for being happy, for not being heartbroken and sorrowful and ashamed and lonely for the last three months-

"Mia."

- and the pain feels like a tidal wave, rising in her gut against all of her better judgement -

"Talk to me. I'm here."

- and she gathers all of that pain, all of the anger, the frustration -

"Mia Moon. Please."

- and unleashes it.

On the wrong person.

She doesn't know she is wheeling around, wrenching out of Jungkook's grip, until it's too late.

"Where the fuck were you, Jungkook?"

He stumbles back slightly, from the physical sensation, and in shock at her outburst.

Mia cannot stop the torrent of words that follow.

"I don't need you now," she is crying again, tears wet on her face. "I needed you then. Three months ago. Where were you? When he told me he didn't love me? When it was obvious that two years of sleeping with me meant absolutely nothing to him?"
