Remus
Trigger warning- Descriptions of Graphic Violence-Werewolf attack. Middle section.

February 24th, 1965

A mother and father, Hope and Lyall Lupin, finished reading their young son Remus, a bedtime story, and tucked him into bed.

"Goodnight, Remus, love." Mummy called.

"Sleep well, Remus." Daddy said as he turned out the light and closed the door. It was about 8:00, a pretty normal bedtime for a 4, soon to be 5, year old boy. Remus soon fell fast asleep.

***

In the middle of the night Remus tossed in his bed. He felt himself starting to wake up, when he heard something at the window. Remus opened his eyes and saw a big hulking wolf standing over him.

Remus screamed as loud as his little voice could. "Daddy! Daddy! Help me! Ahhhhh!"

The wolf began to attack him, trying to bite Remus, as he struggled to fight him off, kicking and pushing as hard as his little arms would allow. The wolf clawed at Remus aiming for his chest. And then, when the wolf had riped a large, claw like gash into Remus's chest. And Remus couldn't fight anymore.

The wolf moved his head to Remus's side, and bit him with all his might. Remus let out a blood curdling scream, and Daddy finally made it to the room.

"Petrificus Totalus!" Daddy cast as soon as he caught sight of the wolf, but he missed, and the wolf jumped back out the window into the night.

When Remus awoke, he was in a hospital bed at St Mungos, in more pain that he'd ever felt before. His mum was there, sitting beside him.

"Mummy, what's happening?" Remus asked in a very frightened voice.

"I'm sorry baby, but I don't know. What ever it was, it was something magical. Your dad is talking to the doc-er-healer. He'll be able to tell you what happened when he gets back." Mum explained as calmly as she could, but she was scared as well. Hope was not magical, like Lyall.

That was when Remus's father walked in with the healer.

"Remus, can you tell me on a scale from 1-10 how much your tummy hurts?" The healer asked.

"It was 10 before I woke up, but it's more like 8 now." Remus answered, wincing as he talked.

"I can give him something for the pain." The healer said turning to Remus's parents. "I need your permission though."

"Yes, please, help our boy!" Mummy answered.

The healer nodded, and went to work.

"Daddy, what happened?" Remus asked desperately.

Daddy took a deep breath "A werewolf attacked you. But you're ok now. Your safe. And the healer is going to do the very best she can to make you feel better." Daddy explained.

The healer had sealed Remus's wounds while he was asleep. She gave him a potion, and then lifted up his pajama shirt to check his wounds. There was a long scar across his chest, and deep bite mark on his side.

"Mr Lupin, would you like to break the news or should I?" The healer asked.

"Go ahead." Daddy answered solemnly.

"Remus, do you know anything about werewolves?" The healer asked.

Remus shook his head.

"People become werewolves when they are infected with lycanthropy. Lycanthropy is a type of blood infection. It can be passed one of two ways: from a parent to child, or by contact between saliva and blood. So when the wolf bite you, you were infected. Which means that as of last night, you will become a werewolf on the full moons." The healer explained.

Remus was in shock. He looked from his mum to his dad, who both just looked really sad. His mum gasped in shock when she heard the news.

Remus didn't really understand what that meant until a month later, when his first full moon occurred.

***

Remus sat in the basement of his house, locked in. Remus didn't understand what was going on. But then, the moonlight streamed in through the window. And Remus felt his bones start to shift inside of him. Remus cried out in pain. "Daddy, Mummy help me!" He yelled. But there was nothing they could to and nobody came.

The next thing Remus could remember was waking up the next morning when his bones shifted back into place, sore, and laying in a pool of his own blood. His dad came down the stairs and checked Remus for any injuries. Thankfully, there weren't any, this time. Dad flicked his wand and the pool of blood was gone. He picked Remus up and brought him up to his own bed. Dad gave Remus a potion, and Remus soon fell peacefully asleep. When he woke up, Remus felt like his normal self, minus some soreness.

But he couldn't imagine, that this was his life now, and every month this process would repeat. After a few months, Remus got used to the pain. But he had no idea the stigma he would face for the rest of his life.

Author's note

If you read these books in the order I published them, then you already know this, but here are a few things that I put on that story that still apply that I think should be said here because it's the first book in the timeline, and I would recommend reading in order of events, especially once I finish this book and the next one.

1) I am American, so I apologize if I don't get all the British lingo, but I'm trying my best. That's why there is a mix of American and British lingo in this fic and I'm sorry if that bother you. Feel free to politely correct me in the comments.

2) To make things simple when talking about wizard money in the context of this fic: Galleon=$50, Sickle=$5, and Knut=50 cents.

That's all my PSAs, so I hope you enjoy the fic.
