Sirius
Dec 25, 1975

Sirius sat down to Christmas dinner with the entire Black family present, most notably his parents, Regulus, Cygnus, Druella, Bellatrix and her husband Rodolphus Lestrange, Narcissa and Lucius Malfoy, whom she was recently betrothed to.

The air was tense and strained, and Sirius almost felt choked by the pressure in the air as it palpitated around him.

Eyes darted passed Sirius and Regulus to other members at the the table constantly and the family talked about the current proceedings of the "Dark Lord" and the wonderful things he planned to do for blood supremacy.

Sirius had noticed new tattoos on Bellatrix and Rodolphus's forearms. Lucius had the same one. It was a tattoo of a skull with a snake coming out of its mouth, like a tongue. No one else showed their forearms, so he was unsure who else had them, if anyone else had them.

"How's the youth recruitment coming, Lucius?" Cygnus had asked when Sirius's attention came back to the conversation at hand.

"Well, Crabbe and Goyle were onboard from the start. I got Yaxley and Alecto Carrow on board pretty quickly as well. Alecto talking to her older brother Amycus to get him on board as well. Azalea Nott and Leonidas Parkinson have been brought into the fold. Currently we are in the process of bringing in Avery's little group, including Mulciber and Snape. Before long we'd like to get Crouch and the Rosier twins. Say, Aquila, you're friends with the Rosier girl? Pandora's her name, right? Think you could help us out?" Lucius reported.

Reggie looked a bit startled at this prompting.

"Sure, I could bring it up to her..." Reggie said. Knowing Pandora, Sirius was pretty certain this wouldn't go very far with her, seeing as she's a serious pacifist. Her brother Evan, on the other hand, might be more persuadable. Not that he would ever say anything. He didn't want to see Reggie or her friends pulled into this.

As the dinner went, on the conversation all blurred together in Sirius's mind as various methods of attempting to pressure him and Reggie into joining up. Sirius decided this time, it might be best to keep his head down and listen. All of this kept his parents attention off of him, and he was able to glean pieces of information that could be useful if things ever did break out into full on war as the rumors suggested. If he could keep it that way, maybe that was best for now.

Toward the end of the meal, Bellatrix, Rodolphus, and Lucius's tattoos started glowing, and they apparated away, along with Cygnus, Druella, Mother and Father. Only Narcissa, Sirius, and Reggie were left behind.

With everyone else gone, Narcissa prepared to leave by floo powder.

"I should be back before they are, but if I'm not, cover for me. There's someone I need to see." Narcissa said, before stepping into the fireplace, where she too, disappeared.

"You're awfully quiet." Reggie commented. "That's not like you."

"With everything that's happened, I don't know that risking their wrath is worth it. Right now they aren't hurting me, and they aren't hurting you, and that's enough for right now." Sirius said.

"You know it's only a matter of time before they try to make us conform. And you know mother, she use any means necessary." Reggie said.

"You know where I stand in all of this. I just need to do what I have to to make it to 17 without them finding out. The longer I can lay low, the easier that will be." Sirius said.

"We just need to make it to 17." Reggie repeated.

"Where do you stand?" Sirius asked.

"I don't know. I don't even know enough about what this dark lord wants to know how I feel about it. I know I can't risk mother and father's wrath though." Reggie answered.

Sirius didn't know what to say next.

"Are we going to be ok?" Reggie asked.

"I hope so, Reg." Sirius replied.

Author's note

Hey folks, apologies for the long hiatus. I'm not going to pretend that it will never happen again, because it probably will. I wanted to get something out for this chapter, mostly because I miss writing and just needed to get something out there. I was originally wanting something much darker for this chapter, but those ideas weren't happening. As the story goes, I might come back here and edit this to see that fleshed out, or I might decide I'm happy with it and leave it be.

As always, I love to hear from you all, so please leave a comment, I love reading them.
