He is grateful to her.

It was the night before Kei's birthday, and he wasn't really thrilled about it. Okay, maybe just a tad. But he was solely interested in what (Y/N) had in store for him.

She was so annoying earlier, well, she was annoying all the time. She continued blabbering to him about a surprise she had planned for him and how she was certain he would like it greatly. That's why he couldn't help but wonder.

Tsukishima Kei doesn’t like cliffhangers.

So that's what he planned to do. In the middle of the night, walking to (Y/N)'s house. Fortunately, her residence was only a 15-minute walk away from his. It was nearly midnight.

He was met with confetti in the face when he arrived at her doorstep.

(Y/N) stood there dressed as an inflatable dinosaur. He couldn't see her face, but he could tell she had that stupid grin on her face again.

"3, 2, 1! Hotaru-chan, happy birthday!"

Tsukishima forced himself to stifle the chuckle that was ready to burst out of his throat. This was hilarious. And she was so endearing.

"Do you like it? Mama Tsukki told me you liked dinosaurs, hehe! That's so adorable, Hotaru-chan!"

'No, you are.' he wanted to reply but he didn't.

"What exactly is this?"

"It's my surprise for you, silly Hotaru-chan! You're so dumb, haha."

He was irked and he sighed in annoyance, but he entertained her nevertheless.

"Also, here!" she said, handing him a nicely wrapped present. The packaging had adorable dinosaur prints. It was a new pair of wireless headphones when he opened it. One that was also quite popular.

"I heard you grumbling about your old headphones being broken, so I took the liberty of gifting you one! Aren't I amazing?"

Tsukishima was tempted to hug her at the time, but he controlled himself. He was really touched and emotional. He almost burst into tears. Almost.

He used the box to hit (Y/N) on the head.

"Itai! That was uncalled for, Hotaru-chan!"

"This costs a lot of money, you idiot."

"Don't worry, I work part-time in a cafe, so I have extra money!" she cheerfully assured him.

What was the matter with this girl? Why was she so nice? Why was she so.. lovely?

"Before I forget, I bought you cake! Strawberry, just the way you like it!"

Kei grinned as she waddled like a penguin to the kitchen to retrieve the cake. Of course, (Y/N) was unable to observe this.

"It's so hard to move in these! And so hot!" she grumbled, and Tsukishima looked her in amusement.

"Then take it off," he suggested.

He heard (Y/N) gasp dramatically before exclaiming, "How promiscuous, Hotaru-chan~!"

Tsukishima blushed a pale amaranth and (Y/N) laughed.

Embarrassed, he shouted, "Shut up!" This simply exacerbated her wheezing.

"Make a wish, Hotaru-chan!"

(Y/N) had taken off her dinosaur suit and was holding out the cake for him to blow out his candles. Kei could feel butterflies fluttering in his stomach. As cliché as that sounded, it was true.

He didn't make a wish, just blew out the candles. He rolled his eyes as (Y/N) booed him.

"Hotaru-chan, you keep rolling your eyes, do you see your brain when you do that?" she teased.

Exasperatedly, he sighed. He admits to himself that this had to be one of the nicest birthdays he's ever had. He was overjoyed, but he didn't show it.

"Cake time~!" cried the girl in a sing-song tone before devouring the cake. Tsukishima glanced at her as if she had three heads.

"Isn't this my cake?"

"Yes, but I was the one who paid for it!"

"Today is my birthday."

"And I paid for it with my own money."

For the nth time that day, he sighed.

"You look disappointed, Hotaru-chan," she murmured innocently, staring up at him.

"Yeah? And you look so happy, as always," he said cynically.

"You're so silly, Hotaru-chan! When have I ever been happy?" (Y/N) laughed.

"What?"

"What?"
