Being a shinobi wasn't what it was made out to be, at least according to Naruto. Team seven was stuck in D-rank hell. Since the bell test, Sakura had picked up her training. Kakashi may not like them yet, but they were growing on him.

Team seven was standing in the Hokage's office. Waiting for their next mission. "Oi Jiji, Can we have a mission that actually matters?" Naruto burst out. "Come on, Naruto, you need to show the Hokage some respect," said Iruka, who sat next to the Hokage. "It's alright Iruka. He has called me Jiji since he was a child." The Hokage tried to ease Iruka's worries. Sakura wondered what kind of relations Naruto had with the highest head in the village. Kakashi knocked Naruto on the top of his head while mumbling a sorry towards the Hokage. "While I agree he should show more respect, I also agree we should get a higher-ranked mission," Sasuke agreed with Naruto. "Not you too," Iruka sighed. "Do you think they are ready for a C-rank?" The Hokage asked Kakashi. "Well. We will never know until we let them loose. They are the heavy assault team of their batch." Kakashi said with a bored look on his face. "I must disagree. They have only been genin for a couple of months. These things take time," Iruka voiced his displeasure. "Let's try with a lighter C-rank mission, to test the waters." The Hokage offered. "That's fair, right, Naruto?" Kakashi was pressuring Naruto to agree by leaning over him. "Yeah, sounds good," Naruto mumbled uncomfortably. Both the Hokage and Sakura were giggling like school girls at the scene. "Bring in Tazuna," The Hokage said to Iruka.

Tuzuna was a carpenter. A drunk carpenter. An old, drunken carpenter. So it wasn't that surprising when he took one look at his protection and scoffed. So naturally, both Naruto and Sasuke took offence to that. So they were disappeared from the sight of Tazuna and placed a kunai on each of his cheeks. Tazuna sobered up instantly and swallowed hard. "Now, now, Naruto, Sasuke. Killing our clients isn't very good for business," Kakashi said. "Sorry, felt the pride of the founding clan's honour was being insulted." Sasuke halfheartedly apologised, And both he and Naruto pulled back. Tazuna released a breath he didn't know he held. "Where do you need to go?" Kakashi asked with an eye smile at their employer. "L-land of waves," Tazuna said, still shaken up. "We will meet up in an hour at the south gate." Kakashi simply announced. Team seven was waiting at the south gate, Kakashi was late as always. Tazuna was also not here. "Jeez, when is Kakashi going to get a grip and stop being late all the time," Sakura whined. "Hell will freeze over when that happens," Naruto sighed in response. He was leaning against a tree, his hitai-ate over his eyes, hands behind his head. His legs were crossed.

On the other hand, Sasuke slanted on the gate, looking more ready for a fight if one was to happen. Sakura was sitting on a stone. Tazuna came before Kakashi. He loudly complained about Ninjas and their work ethic. Naruto nearly slit his throat after the fifth minute. Kakashi came six minutes after Tazuna. "So you guys ready to go?" It came out of his mouth as if he was on time. "Yeah, finally," Naruto said as he fixed his headband and stretched out any kinks. A couple of hours in Sakura asked their temporary travel buddy. "Are there not a hidden village in Land of Waves?" Kakashi answered, "No, there are not. Some of the smaller nations don't have the number of missions to support hidden villages. So they often go to the nearest big village to ask for help."

They walked for a few minutes longer. They walked up to a puddle, and Naruto, having sensed the presence inside it, weaved a sign to Kakashi, who nodded slightly, acknowledging Naruto's warning. As soon as they walked past it, two people jumped out of it and shot a chain each at Kakashi. The chains wrapped around his body and pulled him apart. "One down" was the only thing one of them said. Sakura screamed. Naruto made eye contact with Sasuke, who nodded. They both took off, running towards one of the attackers each. Naruto jumped, avoiding a chain coming towards him. He took out a kunai from his pouch and slammed it down in a chain link, looking it in place. Shocked that a genin got the upper hand against him, the attacker froze as Naruto finally got close enough to punch him, and he clogged him straight in the jaw. The attacker stumbled into Kakashi, who was okay. Kakashi already had the other attacker in a headlock after Sasuke was able to lock away his chain.

Sasuke was slightly jealous of Naruto. He couldn't knock his attacker out before Kakashi showed up, but Naruto could. A brief annoyed expression was visible, but he hid it quickly. "Good job everyone." Kakashi said with a smile. "Sorry Sakura, I needed to know if these guys were after us, or our employer." Kakashi explained. Sakura slumped onto her butt. Sure, she had gotten stronger, but seeing Naruto and Sasuke in action just hammered home how far behind she was. "So fellows who were you targeting?" Kakashi asked with a smile, but he tightened his grip. The attackers broke almost immediately. Kakashi walked over to Tazuna. "You have some things to tell us if you want our contiued protection." He said threateningly.

"Alright, alright. I'll talk." Tazuna broke under Kakashi's heavy eye. "Land of Waves is in financial ruin right now and its all Gato's fault," He continued. "You mean the business tycoon Gato?" Kakashi interrupted. "The one and the same. He is killing Land of Waves with exuberant fees and high taxes. He even took the daimyo captive in is own palace. If I can't build the bridge to complition my poor country is going to die and I can't get there without your help. But I understand if you want to go home I lied to you after all. My poor daughter and grandson will just miss their old man if I die on the way home. But I completely understand if you want to go home." Tazuna put on a bit of a show as he explained his position. "Kakashi-sensei, as much as I hate mannipulators," Naruto shot a dirty look towards the bridge builder, who didn't even have the decency to look guilty. "But I hate people who take advantage of others more. We should do something." Naruto finished his thought. "I agree with Naruto." Sasuke said, eager to get a chance to show up his rival. "What do you say Sakura?" Kakashi didn't want to finish this mission. These were chunin in level, and he doubted they would be the strongest ninja they would face on this journey. "I-I agree with the boys," Sakura said, unsure if this was a good idea. "Well, I guess I got outvoted. You are lucky Tazuna, if I had my way we would have left you here." Kakashi said as he started walking towards Wave.
