Hunter got up, ready for the day.
well, actually no. he's never ready for the day. he's never ready to meet his uncle Belos down in the kitchen, because every time he has seemingly done something wrong. always. Belos always finds a reason to hurt him. , not today.
Hunter got out of his bed, checking the time. it was the exact right time he was supposed to wake up; 4:00 AM. he had to wake up early or Belos would have his fists ready for hitting. Belos took away his alarm clock because apparently it woke him up "too early in the morning". such a lie, because Hunter was only 16 and he should be getting sleep.
Hunter groaned, but quietly. he turned and opened his drawer, revealing his clothes. he took out his usual outfit; a golden-yellow tunic with darker sleeves and a dark brown belt, and black leggings. his dark brown gloves, and put on his boots.
Hunter sighed, and walked towards his door, hesitant. He placed his hand on the doorknob, but before he could do so, his cardinal bird pet, Flapjack, left its perch and fluttered to his shoulder. Hunter froze.
'sorry, Flapjack, but you know that uncle doesn't like animals... you should hide..' Hunter murmured, scratching the bird's head gently. Flapjack chirped sadly, but flew off his shoulder and hid somewhere in his room.
Hunter sighed sadly, and opened his door to leave the room. He started walking down the stairs silently, and entered the kitchen. He sat down at the table to wait for their uncle. Soon, at about 4:12 AM, Belos came down from his room. Hunter gasped quietly, and straightened his back, sitting up straight in his chair.
Belos sat down across from him, on the other side of the table. Hunter trembled invisible, staring at his uncle from his seat.
'Hunter.' Hunter flinched, and froze. Belos stared at him, as if Hunter had done something wrong. They were both silent, and Steve, a servant who had been passing by, didn't seem to want to interrupt at that. Hunter trembled at his uncle's glare.
'y-yes, uncle?' Hunter stammered, mentally punching himself. Belos sighed.
'i have been thinking recently.' he started. Hunter looked up slightly at him. Belos' face seemed softer now, not as much of a glare. just a gaze. 'i have decided to enroll you in school. you haven't been in school for a long time, and i want you to report to me what happened during your day.' Belos finished, surprising Hunter.
'r-really? you'd let me go to school?' Hunter asked, a small grin forming on his face. Belos smiled softly, and nodded. Hunter looked up fully, smiling. 'thank you, u-uncle.' he said.
'you start today, and you leave at 8:50. you get your uniform there.' Belos informed him, and hunter smiled.
'thank you again, u-uncle.'
soon, Hunter had to leave for school. he made sure Belos didn't see him take Flapjack, and he hid Flapjack in his clothes. luckily, he hadn't. the moment Hunter got to the bus stop, the bus pulled up and Hunter got in.
'um, i'm aa new student.' he told the bus driver, and sat down on the first seat. the bus started driving again, and then soon stopped at another bus stop, where two girls were standing, waiting for the bus .
''ello, Luz, V.' the bus driver greeted the girls, and they sat down in the seat next to Hunter's seat. Hunter looked at them.
the girl sitting closer to Hunter was a Dominican-American girl(according to wiki) with tan skin, and her hair was a purple-brown cut in a pixie-cut, and her eyes were hazel. she was wearing the school uniform; a gray tunic with a dark gray belt, cowl, and white shoes. her left sleeve was dark and light purple, and her right sleeve was dark and light green. and her right legging was red and reddish pink.
the girl by the window had light tan skin, and her hair was seemingly dyed a dull green with dark blue underneath. her clothes were the exact same as her sisters. her eyes were dark with bright yellow pupils. her thick hair seemed to cover her ears, so hunter couldn't see them.
Hunter slid down in his seat, groaning. this was going to be a hard day, as he hadn't been to school since he was about... 6 years old, and this school would be different. this wasn't a Preschool , or a Daycare, or Kindergarten. this was actual school. hard-core school. Hunter turned his head to the window, feeling miserable. he knew that most of the students would probably stare at his eyes, and his permanent scar, so for now he would look away from them, to hide it.
Suddenly, Hunter heard a small sliding sound and a soft thud sound close to him. somebody had sat beside him.
'hi! i'm Luz, Luz Noceda!' they introduced themselves. Hunter saw from the window reflection that it was one of the girls that had just come in. the one with the brown pixie cut. Hunter flinched, moving his head from the window to his lap, so she wouldn't see his eyes or scar.
'hellooo?' Luz asked, tilting her head. she frowned, her eyebrows furrowing in frusteration. she wasn't going to give up on this, apparently. 'hellooooo.' she repeated, waving her hand in front of Hunter's face, making him flinch badly and try to shield himself from her.
'stop!' he exclaimed, covering his face with his arms, as if shielding himself from a punch. Luz's eyes widened, and she stared at him, shocked.
'are you okay?' she asked, reaching out her hand to place on his shoulder. Hunter looked back at his lap, unaware that some other kids on the bus had started staring at him. Luz frowned and placed her hand on his shoulder.
'look at meeee.' she urged, shaking him slightly. Hunter flinched at the sharp movement, and he shook his head as if disagreeing with looking at her. Luz frowned again, taking her hand and putting it under his chin, and lifting it , turning it to her face. Hunter's eyes widened, and he tried shielding his face, but Luz took hold of his arms and stared at him firmly.
Hunter noticed that Luz's supposedly sister, probably V, had been watching them the whole time. 'hmm. you're eyes are pretty! i like them!' Luz complimented, and didn't seem to take notice of his scar . my eyes? but... they're pink. and ugly. Hunter stared at her, confused and scared.
'but— but they're pink.' he pointed out. Luz didn't even seem to care about that, and didn't think they were ugly.
'and they're.. they're ugly!' he said, and Luz gasped, as if he had insulted her. she glare at him, as if he had insulted her or V, or somebody else.
'no, they are beautiful! i can't believe you would say that about your amazing eyes.' she said, crossing her arms. 'oh, and your scar makes you look strong! adventurous!' she pointed out, and he looked his head.
'no, it's just a reminder of my failures!' he argued. Luz looked confused. '...nevermind. i don't know why i told you that, just... go talk to somebody else, not a loser like me.' Hunter said, and turned away from Luz. Luz frowned and Hunter heard sliding again, and he assumed Luz had gone back to her old seat.
Ugh, this is going to be a long day...
