chapter 2 ;; the boy with magenta eyes

It was Wednesday, and it was finally school time.

'well, Ed, Em, please don't skip class today, again .' Amity said, rolling her eyes. Edric smirked and shared a look with his twin sister, Emira. Amity groaned, as she knew that look. to do it.

'don't worry, Mittens, we won't!' Edric lied, and Emira giggled, patting their little sister's head. Edric smirked and Amity started running towards her friends, Luz and Vee Noceda, Willow Park, and Augustus Gus Porter. Edric and Emira started giggling when they saw Amity's face go red when Luz greeted her.

It was obvious to everyone except for Luz that Amity had a big fat crush on her—and Luz likely had one as well, considering she would lightly blush back when Amity greeted her back.

Edric was the only single one without a crush in his family—his sister Emira had been hinting at having a partner, Amity had a crush on Luz, and his parents were kinda married to each other, although barely in love. but it was apparent that Jerbo, another student, liked him. Unfortunately, Edric had no feelings for him other than friendship.

Suddenly, before Edric and Emira could follow Amity to her class, someone bumped into Edric, hard.

'oh my goddess, sorry, sorry sorry sorry—' the boy who had bumped into Edric had started to apologize a millon times, but Edric couldn't take it anymore and interrupted him.

'whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down.' Edric urged, putting his hands up in front of him to stop the boy. 'it's okay, dude.' Edric reassured, and then started to examine the boy.

he was a fair-skinned boy, with a slightly hooked nose, and his ears were slightly pointed, the left ear being ripped slightly. he had a surprisingly adorable toothgap, and his eyes are dark pink-magenta . eye bags, as if he hadn't slept for weeks. his ash-blonde hair was curly, and shaved below the top, with a long, loose curl that separates from the rest of his hair, dangling in front of his eyes. cheek has a permanent scar, and he was actually pretty scrawny.

Edric blinked, and stood up, holding out his hand. 'sorry for staring at you, it's just,' he thought for a moment. 'i like your eyes. and your loose curl.' Edric complimented, smiling. and took his hand.

'nah, my eyes aren't that nice. and— my curl, well, my curl i don't exactly like. it gets in my eyes.' he muttered, getting to his feet. Edric smiled wider.

'well, i like your eyes. they're pretty.' he said, making the boy blush harder.

'w-well, i have to get my t-timetable—s-schedule? i don't know what th-they're called...bye!' he said quickly, and rushed away. Edric's smile turned into a slight smile-frown.

i didn't even get his name. he thought, shrugged, and turned to Emira. his smile-frown turned into a playful scowl when he saw Emira's wide smirk. A soft punch in the shoulder as a reply and Edric walked by her, away from his class and Emira.

Emira gasped dramatically, and followed him quickly. 'how dare you, Ed.' she said sarcastically and dramatically, softly punching him in the shoulder as revenge. Edric rolled his eyes and, turning the corner, he saw the boy from earlier running down the hallway, towards Principal Bump's office.

getting his schedule, Edric thought, and leaned against the wall. 'whaddya wanna do instead of class?' Emira shrugged, looking at the distance. Suddenly, just before Edric suggested something, the speaker from the office made a static sound and Principal Bu mp started speaking.

'Edric Blight, please come to the principal's office.' Edric and Emira could hear whispers from inside the classrooms around them. "oh, he probably got in trouble again." "hm, probably for bullying his younger sister again." "or maybe because he pranked a teacher again?" "he's probably skipping again."

Edric stopped leaning on the wall, with Emira staring at him like "what- why wasn't i mentioned as well? i'm also skipping!" and Edric started to walk towards the principal's office, ignoring Emira's surprised stare. the door, and opened it to see the boy from earlier standing in front of Principal Bump, looking awkwardly at Edric.

'so, Edric.' Principal Bump started. 'Hunter here is a new student and he requested that you show him the tour of the school. He also needs his new uniform, so could you please show him where those are? Learn all tracks, so get him the uniform with all colors, like the Noceda twins.' Principal Bump explained, and Hunter looked down at his feet awkwardly. Edric smiled.

'of course, Principal Bump. c'mon, er—Hunter, let's go.' Edric said, and lead Hunter out of Principal Bump's office. Hunter walked awkwardly behind Edric as he explained where all the classes were and the cafeteria, the theater room, and more. soon, they got to the uniform room.

'so... the multi-track uniform issss...' Edric murmured as he checked the drawers. he looked through all of them before finally getting to the one with the "multi-track uniforms". 'right here!' he exclaimed, holding it up for Hunter to see.

Hunter took it from him, looking down at it. he looked slowly up at Edric, his magenta eyes shaking slightly. his mouth shifted, and Edric swore he could've seen him crack a small smile. closed so Hunter could change. Soon, Hunter made a small sound signaling he was done.

'okay, i think the tour is over. which class do you want to go to first?' he asked. Hunter looked down, and seemed to think for a moment. then he looked up.

'w-which one do you study?' he asked, and Edric smiled, with a look of knowing on his face.

'i study optical illusions! it's the light blue, as you can tell from my uniform.' Edric announced. Hunter's eyes showed curiosity and interest at that.

'i wanna learn that first!' Hunter exclaimed, softly smiling. it was a slight smile, barely noticeable. but Edric noticed it, so he took Hunter's arm and started walking back to the classroom. though.

they passed Emira, who decided not to follow them, and entered the classroom, where the teacher had already started a lesson on optical illusions.

'ah, Edric, you're actually attending this time. this is the new student with you, i am correct?' the teacher asked, Edric nodded and Hunter gasped as quiet as he could, hiding behind Edric as if he were scared he would be made fun of.

the students' eyes all turned right to Hunter. he was frozen, as if terrified something bad would happen. Edric frowned and pulled him in front of him, smiling.

'this is Hunter!' he said. Hunter went red and covered his face. The students started giggling and laughing quietly at his embarrassment, and Edric frowned, clearly disliking that.

'come sit by me,' he suggested to Hunter, and Hunter nodded. Hunter and Edric went and sat down in the only two empty seats, and the teacher started to talk.

'hey, how 'bout you come and hang with me at my house after school for a bit?' Edric whispered to Hunter, not caring one bit about the lesson the teacher was giving. Hunter didn't seem to hesitate at all, and just quickly nodded with a grin on his face.

Hopefully mom doesn't care much.
