Chapter 13

"Got semolina, seven-grain and whole wheat," Fiona announced as she walked through the front door when she finished work.

Veronica was in the kitchen with Hollie, brushing Debbie's hair, "you work in a bakery and all you stole was bread?" She asked, "where are the crullers and turnovers?"

"We want sugar," Debbie said.

"Yeah? Too bad." Fiona said as she placed the bread on the counter and pulled off her gloves, "free toast for a week. Who wants a sandwich."

Steve came down the stairs, "Mine with the crusts cut off." He said, "how was your wake-and-bake?"

"Two a.m start time. I don't know how Lucia does it." Fiona sighed.

"Nice hairnet." Hollie chuckled as she pulled the hairnet off of Fiona's head.

Steve turned Fiona towards him, "Hey, I got a surprise for you."

"Gotta do something about that toilet," Veronica said.

"What's wrong with it?" Fiona asked.

"Nothing if you don't mind squatting above the seat so your ass didn't touch the water," Veronica said.

"Why is this the first time I'm hearing this?" Hollie asked.

"Did you try and fix it?" Fiona asked.

"Hell no. I just got my nails done." Veronica said.

"What about you?" Fiona turned to Hollie.

"I just found out about it." Hollie said, "if someone had told me when I got home from work I would have."

"I got us a room at the Delacroix tonight," Steve said to Fiona. "Ha. ha. Good for you. Who are you gonna take? Sounds nice." Fiona said.

"Where are the knives? Carl!" Hollie yelled when she opened the drawer to get a bread knife.

Hollie disappeared upstairs and returned a few minutes later with a handful of kitchen knives from Carl's room. She dumped them in the drawer as Steve tried to convince Fiona about the hotel.

After receiving a call from Lip telling them to meet him, Hollie, Fiona, Steve, Veronica, Debbie, Carl, Ian and Mandy gathered around the back of a delivery truck while Kevin uses a bolt cutter to break the lock and open the back of the truck.

"Wow!"

Inside the back of the truck is filled with an array of different kinds of meat and dairy products.

"What is this?"Kevin said as he climbed up into the truck with Lip and moved further into the truck.

"Come on," the others climbed up too; the adults helping the kids.

"I got em, I got em, I got em." Said Lip as he pulled Debbie into the truck.

"Alright, I got you."

Neighbours gathered around the truck with wheelbarrows and old shopping carts, taking products from the truck as soon as they could reach them and filling them up as much as they could.

"You go ahead." Kevin told Lip and Hollie as he filled their wheelbarrow, "I'm gonna go back and fight for more,"

"Are you sure that's such a good idea?" Hollie asked as Kevin pushed his way back towards the truck.
