Hello people! Extremely Sorry for the late update. Couldn't help, all my time is going on Skype with my husband who is away these days.It doesn't help as he was my proof reader, editor as well as my biggest inspiration. I and my son are missing him very much.
Back to the story, this chapter is a lot different from the first one. Please let me know how you feel about it, it might also motivate me to bring the next installment earlier.
Dedicated to somerholic_bash for being so amazing....
Mel's POV
The phone was ringing continuously again. I took a few steps back to reach the opposite corner of my room and sank down against the wall. I tried to cover my ears with my hands to mask the sound but it didn't help.
Mom hurried inside my room and picked the phone as she gave me an anxious look. She had been here with me since Rob......left me alone. I hated the fact that she had a worried expression on her face constantly, all because of me. I wanted to tell her I was fine but I couldn't because I had this strange numbness in my mind. I wanted to speak but the words died in my mouth. I stayed in my room all the time, barely able to speak or eat.
"Hello!" Mom had barely greeted the caller when I heard an agitated voice from the phone. Mom's forehead creased and her eyebrows came together. "It's Ana, Dan is in hospital."
I felt a sudden bolt of lightning strike my heart. There was pain everywhere. I tried to get up but my legs gave away. Two or three feeble attempts later I was on my feet and picked up my car keys. Mom stopped me as I was about to exit the house, "Mel I" ll drive you there."
It was a silent ride. I had been so thankful to mom for not asking any questions till now but suddenly my heart felt very heavy. I wanted to tell her everything I was feeling or not feeling. Yet I knew, this wasn't the right time. One word and I would break apart, collapse like I desperately needed to. Seeing Dan was far more important.
Once we reached the hospital the receptionist pointed us to room 303. Mom took my hand in hers as we reached.Ana, Dan's mother was standing right outside the hospital room door.
"Isabel, Mel what do I do?" Ana asked me as she hugged mom. "What happened Ana?" I tried to sound steady but it came out weak and worried.
" Oh! Dear you know how he was at the funeral. He left as soon as you left and he was very agitated. He seemed angry ever since that day. I never could have guessed he was thinking all this. He was riding fast and we found him lying near his bike in a pool of blood near the church. "
My heart thundered inside my chest. God no, please no.
A nurse came out of his room just then, "Miss Brown, Dan is your son right?"
Ana nodded in reply. Her anxious eyes looking into the nurse's eyes as if searching something they don't want to find.
" Dan has a minor injury in his head but he had broken a few bones. His left arm and his left feet bones to be exact. I think he fell on his left side hence there are bruises towards that side. He would need a cast which we are doing right now and some pain killers. You can take him home after that but you need to look after this guy a lot. He seems....disturbed." The nurse left immediately after informing us.
Relief washed all over my body. He was hurt but he was fine, he will make it. He isn't leaving me like Rob.
Ana and mom said small prayers thanking the lord and I started for home without waiting anymore.
When I reached the car I couldn't hold it anymore. My tears which were threatening to come out since long, bursted out, just then it started to rain. Seeing that there was nobody near the car park I climbed on the bonnet and laid down towards my side, keeping my knees close to my belly and using my hands to hug myself. Drenched in the rain the memories came flooding to me.
