Lana had never surfed before, at least not in the ocean. The ocean was scary! Wave pools weren't. She hoped that Lucy had done it before so neither one fell in the water a million times. Strangely, no one else was at the beach. Lucy was the one to notice it.
"Wow, it's really calm around here!" Lucy said, taking a look around.
"Yeah, and spooky." Lana replied.
They would not have come if they had been watching the news that morning. But they were kids! Kids don't watch the news.
Lucy surfed while Lana made a sandcastle.
Lucy asked, "Do you wanna search for crabs?"
"Sure!" Lana said.
There were no crabs to be found, much to the chagrin of the girls.
"It looks like something scared them off." Lucy said while looking at the crab tracks.
They followed them all the way to the sand castle. The crabs could be found hiding inside. Lana felt a chill in the air. Since it had rained the other day Lana thought nothing of it.
"You know, I think it's time to go home. Could start to rain soon." Lana said.
They turned around when they saw something, something very strange.
Lucy had never seen anything like it. It was small, green, and looked like a pile of seaweed, but it had eyes, that ers staring at her! She was so shocked that she jumped into Lana's arms, who was staring blankly at the small, green, thing.
"Ach! What Are you?!" Lucy screamed.
She was terrified! She wanted this thing to go away and never come back.
"Uh, I'm a sea monster, at least I think I am." Sigmund said.
This was not Sigmund's plan. They were supposed to run away! Not start up a conversation.
"What is your name foul creature?" Lucy asked.
"My name is Sigmund and I think I smell pretty nice."
These humans did not get it. He was a sea monster, and yet they were just standing there! Lana decided to finally talk, dropping Lucy in the process.
"Let me guess, your family kicked you out and you have to scare us to go back home?" Lana said.
"Yes! How did you know?" Sigmund asked.
"Honey, I eat cartoons for breakfast. By the way, I'm Lana and the girl on the ground is Lucy!"
"Hi!" Lucy said while picking herself up.
Her smile quickly turned to a scowl. This was about the time when she realized that Lana was trying to befriend a sea monster.
"Lana, what are you thinking?! He could be part of the sea monster mob!"
"He isn't part of the sea monster mob! Wait, are you?" Lana asked Sigmund.
"No! I would never be."
"He's lying. Let's run!"
"Wait right there." Lana said, grabbing Lucy by the swimsuit. "Do you need our help?"
"Yes." Sigmund said.
"Does your family hate your guts?"
"Maybe."
"Then we'll be your bodyguards!"
"No, we won't! His family must be even bigger and scarier!"
"Oh, shush. Come on, we have a spare room!"
This would be great! No more having to sleep on the ground! He walked behind Lana and Lucy, trying to keep a low profile. Little did they know, Sigmund's family was up to something.
