Chapter Seven:
"Look, we don't even want to be here, why
don't we just call the fight off-?"THE COLD AIR OF THE NIGHT GENTLY KISSED MARLEY'S PALE FACE AS THE WIND BLEW ACROSS THE ENDLESS PLAINS. The moon was glimmering high above, twinkling stars waving down the earth from light years away. It was the only thing Marley was enjoying about the mission, something she had solely missed whilst locked in the assignment. She stared at the sky with a tender and absentminded smile, lost in her thoughts.
Her moment of peace was cut short as the faint rumbling of a vehicle echoed through the silence. She quickly moved away from the light, taking shelter beneath a tree's thick branch and blending in with the dark shadows. Shakily, her fingers raised to rest against the earpiece nestled securely within her ear. "Is this them?" she asked, narrowed eyes following the car with no success in seeing inside. The Mercedes was followed by a darker car as if getting a police escort to the residence. It gave Senator Goff away immediately.
"Yes," John confirmed from his place safe within the truck alongside Adebayo and Murn. "We got the Berenstain Bears in the Mercedes. Papa Bear, Mama Bear, Brother Bear, and Sister Bear all accounted for," he listed off quickly. There was a silent second before he spoke again: "we've got a bodyguard and Cobra Kai in a Cadillac Escalade."
"Widow, wait till Goff is eliminated. Make sure Judomaster is on you as Harcourt and Peacemaker finish the job," Murn instructed.
Marley gritted her teeth, biting back a snarky remark as she watched the vehicles from the concealment of bushes. How the hell was she suppose to distract the clearly extremely well trained martial artist?
Switching off her com so she could talk to herself, Marley stood. If needed, the Team could still speak to her but they couldn't hear what she was saying. It gave her alone time to try and pull fourth her 'violent instinct' which was really just her other half.
She began to pace in the small opening of the forest, shaking her hands as if washing away the nerves trembling against her skin. "Okay, Widow, time to take centre stage," she whispered, begging for her alter to take control and handle the situation. "Come on, please..." her plea was falling on deaf ears as if the Widow was fast asleep within her mind. It was as if the alter was unaware of what was occurring and the life-threatening circumstance Marley could find herself in.
"Mercedes and Escalade have landed," Harcourt reported, making Marley's panic escalate to the next level.
The woman turned back to the house, watching as Judomaster and the bodyguard led the family to the entrance. They looked like an average family, Goff and his wife laughing brightly as they played around with the two children. The kids giggled and cheered as they played along and chased their father across the front yard.
