Chapter Eleven:
"I think we should be excused...
I mean, we're just innocent bystanders"MARLEY HAD HEARD OF MUSCLE MEMORY. Everything she had heard on the term made her thing that when a situation came where she was uncertain her 'muscle memory' would kick in and save her. Driving was however one of the few things were her muscle memory did not kick in.
Her driving skills were shit. She weaved through the streets dangerously, far exceeding the speed limit and running over the gutters. She even smashed through a stop sign and miraculously, she managed to speed away before law enforcement caught up to her. More then likely, Adrian would probably get a visit from the police for her reckless driving. Surely, at least one security camera picked up on the chaos.
Marley screamed suddenly as the bottom of the car scrapped loudly against the gutter. Her hands quickly lifted from the steering wheel, her breathing harsh as she leaned to look out the window. The car was halfway on the footpath with the rest hanging off dangerously in the middle of the road.
She thought for a moment, pursing her lips. "Yeah, that'll do..." Killing the engine, she tugged the keys free and climbed out, pushing the door against the cement loudly as it scrapped across the hard material. When she closed the door, she visibly winced at the damage decorating the side.
Marley was met with confused stares from the Taskforce as she stumbled into the room. She dramatically collapsed into a free seat, sinking into it with harsh breaths passing her lips. They were sat in a circle around an infuriated Clemson Murn. It resembled a AA meeting.
"Where the hell were you?" Murn questioned harshly, a cold glare pointed at the woman.
Marley sat up, listing it on her fingers: "Peacemaker's Dad's house, prison, here."
Murn squinted his eyes. "What?"
She lifted her shoulders into a small shrug.
"Every time I turn around, one of you is doing something fucked up!"
Marley flinched at Murn's suddenly outburst, her eyes wide as she turned to look at Adebayo. "I'm guessing he knows about Vigilante," she whispered as if it would make her voice invisible to everyone but Leota.
"Yes! I know about Vigilante!" Murn cut in loudly. "Why didn't you stop him-?"
Marley slowly sank in her seat, heart hammering against her chest as Murn towered over her like a looming threat. "Well..." she swallowed nervously. "Economos said Vigilante was wanted on multiple counts of murder..." Her explanation was accompanied by a short glance to the agent in question. "We didn't want to risk pissing him off."
Murn exhaled an irritated breath. He took a step back and Marley released a shaky breath as the anger turned to be targeted at the group as a whole. "I thought Waller gave me soldiers. Instead, it's the fucking Apple Dumpling Gang!"
