Chapter Twenty:
"See, I can be useful when I want to be. You guys just argue that much it's hard to get a single word in"

MARLEY'S MIND WANDERED THROUGH THE PREVIOUS NIGHT ENDLESSLY. With the infectious kiss plaguing her mind, she laid awake with a wide grin on her face. Adrian had driven her home afterward, a similar grin remaining upon his own lips as they held hands the whole way, an unspoken acceptance of each other's feeling filling the air. He had even walked her to the motel door, continuing to gush about how they could go anywhere they wanted after the stupid Butterfly operation. It made Marley feel like a little kid again.

She giggled, rolling around in the bed as she continued to think of the last few hours, sleep never greeting her and only the glimmering moon that peered through small gap between the drawn curtains bearing witness to her excitement. They were almost free, and she was for once feeling optimistic about the future.

Adrian was willing to drop everything to take Marley on an adventure, and that left her with nothing short of love.

A sudden knock broke Marley's thoughts, making her freeze. Her grin wavered as she sat up, watching the shadow creep past the curtain, darkness tainting the carpets before disappearing once again and being replaced by the soft morning sun.

The knock persisted, but was shortly followed by a voice. "Roxanne, open the damn door, it's time to go," Harcourt exclaimed, continuing to pour her fist against the rattling door that seemingly threatened to tumble off the hinges.

"Oh, right!" Marley stammered, scrambling from the bed in a quick attempt to try and change out of last nights clothing. "Yep! Just changing, I'll be out in a sec."

"I swear to god, if I open this door and Vigilante is in that bed-!"

Marley sputtered at her words, continuing to try and change. "What? No! Men suck, ah!" She yelped as she tumbled to the floor, one half of her leggings still clutching onto her pale leg. "Stupid pants..." she muttered, pulling the black material whilst on the floor.

"Before you lie, tell your boyfriend he should speaker more quietly," Harcourt continued to lecture like an exasperated parent scolding their kid for being out pass curfew. When Marley eventually managed to look decent, shirt still hanging around her neck, she pulled the door open to stare at a grinning Harcourt. The blonde folded her arms, keeping a relaxed stance. "He speaks very loud."

Marley's face was warm and she did not feel like knowing how red her face had became.

The glow emitted from her pale skin made a grin fall onto the usual stoic and empty expression of Agent Harcourt. The blonde punched Marley's shoulder teasingly, her grin wavering into a tiny smirk of amusement at the other woman's embarrassment.
