DETENTION

GREEN AND SILVER confetti rained down around Cassie as she entered the Slytherin common room. The room had been decorated in her honor, and Cassie could smell the alcohol in the air.

Everyone was cheering and rushing up to her. Congratulating her and praising her.

In one swift motion Beckett had hoisted the girl up onto his shoulders as the crowd continued to cheer.

Cassie was actually smiling, she couldn't help herself for once. She'd made a whole group of people go wild with pride and support.

"Cassie Malfoy ladies and gentlemen!" Beckett yelled over the crowd. "The real Hogwarts champion!"

The crowd of students once again went wild. It made Cassie proud to see her house with so much pride. A house that was hated and looked down upon, finally had its time to shine.

At least there was a positive to this situation.

"You're going to be brilliant, Cas." Maria said, once the party had calmed down a bit. Maria, Eliza, and Cassie were all sitting on one of the comfy sofas in the common room.

Cassie shrugged.
"I have to be brilliant."

Eliza rested her head on Cassie shoulder.

"You will be, you're strong and smart and sexy and everyone thinks so." Eliza slurred her words in her drunken state. "I think so! I think you're perfect."

Maria giggled, and Cassie carefully removed the bottle of fire whisky from Eliza's hands. "Thanks, Liz. I think that's enough for tonight."

It took her ages before she could slip away from the party without being noticed, but Cassie finally managed it.

The girl let out an exhausted sigh as she flopped down onto her bed.

You've done it. She told herself over and over.

She'd done what her father had wished of her. Now all she had to do was win.

Breakfast was overwhelming the next morning. Slytherin students were still beside themselves with congratulations. Cassie received more applause as she walked into the great hall that morning.

She couldn't let herself focus on the attention, she was waiting anxiously to see the Malfoy's eagle.

"Cas will you relax?" Maria asked with a sigh. Cassie had been staring blankly at her cup of coffee as her leg bounced up and down rapidly.

Cassie blinked up at the girl as Beckett said, "Yeah, you're a champion now. Enjoy it."

If Eliza had been present, maybe she would've defended Cassie's anxious behavior but Eliza was nursing a hangover in their dorm room.

The blonde girl narrowed her eyes at Beckett as he stuffed a biscuit into his mouth. Maria gazed at him adoringly.

"I won't relax until the Tri-Wizard Cup is mine." Cassie said bitterly.

"Cas-" Beckett had opened his mouth to argue, but Cassie had finally spotted the proud eagle carrying a letter.

The letter dropped in front of her and Cassie tore into it as quickly as she could.

Dear Cassiopeia,

Well done. Now focus on winning the first task. Do not disappoint me.
