Chapter 31
Inside the wooden house in the cold weather, deafening silence began to surround the two who were inside. Shao Ling just stared at him, looking bewildered and clueless. While Lian Ren just looked at him from afar, his brows softened and his eyes getting wet, as if he would cry any time. The sound of the streaming water became louder, and the flutter of the bird's wings was heard in the ceiling.
Amid the silence, Shao Ling eventually started to walk past Lian Ren, hiding behind the tall screen as he slowly removed his clothes. He didn't even order Lian Ren to get out because he needed to change. Shao Ling was at a loss. Because of the song, he was unsure of what to do after knowing his past. And why did the village chief want him to know about it? Shao Ling will be fine even if he didn't hear that song.
The fate will continue; it will be up to you. Shao Ling doesn't even know what that means. Does it mean that his fate is still not finished? Of course, that will be the case because he's still alive, but it was as if there was a hidden message in that song as if it was singing it to him indirectly because it couldn't perhaps tell him the words directly. If that's so, then what kind of destiny will come to him in the future? Is it a good one? Or the bad one? Shao Ling had no idea because the hidden words in the song were incomplete as if they were still missing, things that even the pond didn't know despite being blessed by a god.
After Shao Ling wore another pair of plain white robes that he layered with the outer robe with blue clouds embedded on its hem from the Yun Sect that he left behind in the house, Shao Ling widened his palms and pressed them to his wet robes. He infused spiritual qi in it to freeze every particle of water from the fabric, then shook the ice away, leaving the Yun Sect robes dry again. When Shao Ling stepped out of the screen, he noticed that Lian Ren was still standing afar from him; it hadn't even moved in his position. I was just staring at him; his hands were slightly trembling and his lips were pressed together.
"What is it?" Shao Ling asked with a frown, "Do you want something? If that's so, then tell the Village Chief about it."
Shao Ling was taken aback when Lian Ren suddenly kneeled in front of him, his forehead pressing on the floor as if he were kowtowing him instead of simply kneeling. Shao Ling stood still as he stared down at Lian Ren, looking troubled and bewildered at the same time. It wasn't that long when he heard Lian Ren speak, "S-Shizun, this discipline of yours..."
Shao Ling was even more confused. What is it trying to say? Did it perhaps harm a person here in the Blue Dawn Tribe? Is he asking him for hell about something? Shao Ling was frustrated because Lian Ren didn't even finish his words. "What is it?" Shao Ling asked with a straight face, hiding his confusion and troubled expression.
"I did..." Lian Ren closed his eyes as he continued speaking. "I did a horrible thing...to Shizun."
Shao Ling frowned even more. "Horrible thing? I don't recall anything like that."
Lian Ren raised his eyes; there were teardrops trapped on the side of his lid as if he were trying not to shed a tear in front of him. Lian Ren bit his trembling lips and continued to speak, "I... When Shizun was pregnant, I..."
In the blink of an eye, Lian Ren was slammed into the wooden wall of the house, leaving a large crack and small debris falling on the ground. Lian Ren raised his gaze at Shao Ling, who was staring at him with bloodshot eyes. Shao Ling's cheeks were flushed red, his brows were deeply frowning, and his lips were pressing tightly while his azure blue spiritual qi surrounded his whole body, especially his right palm.
