Chapter 44
The Mortal Realm, which was once a land of green leaves, animals, and people, has now turned into a wasteland filled with dried and burned lands. It was as if the environment of the underworld realm went to the mortal realm as well. Almost no living could be seen anymore, except for the people below, who are chained in a line as they carry a boulder on their shoulders.
"What with all of you?! We feed you once a day! Yet you pay us with this kind of energy?! Hurry up and move!" The demon raised his whip and started whipping people. The edge of the whip was thin and sharp, leaving a bloody mark on the people's bodies as they continued to carry the boulder while enduring the unbearable pain of the whip.
"Bastards!" Lian Ren immediately grabbed Shao Ling, who was about to jump down and grab the demon's throat. His arms were wrapped around Shao Ling's waist while his other hand was brushing Shao Ling's cheeks, whispering soft words to calm him down. "Shizun, it's not the time to be controlled by your anger. Remember what you and I came here for?"
"........"
Lian Ren sighed. I swear Shizun always did this, even in my past life. What significance do those people have for him to not pay his full attention to me? I'm kind of getting impatient as the time goes by.
Even though Lian Ren also wants to choke that demon to death, moving recklessly would cause their mission to fail, and there's a possibility that they won't be able to go back to the present world. Lian Ren glanced at Shao Ling, who was still lost in his own thoughts, brows deeply frowning and lips tightly pursed. It will be no good if he tries to persuade Shao Ling to start moving right now because of his anger.
"Let's go."
"Huh?" Lian Ren was still dumbfounded even when Shao Ling grabbed him by the hand and started moving towards the huge tower from afar.
Shao Ling glanced at him and spoke, "Our mission is to kill the Demon King as soon as possible, right? We might as well start moving right now instead of making a plan because it would be a waste of time. We can conduct a plan along the way. Just tell me your suggestions. This Master will cooperate."
Lian Ren was astounded as he followed along with him. This is the first time Shizun has listened to me. Really... His lips curled into a sweet smile, his eyes staring intently at his shogun as he spoke in a soft, gentle voice, "I think this place is not a wasteland yet, Shizun. You can feel it, right? An energy of a barrier somewhere."
"Yes, you're right." Shao Ling nodded. "I also felt it. However, it's hundreds of miles far from here. It's not a problem anyway since we just have to go immediately using light footwork."
"But Shizun, we might catch the attention of the demons," Lian Ren replied.
Shao Ling arched his brows at him, staring with his brows furrowed as if Lian Ren had said something that offended him. From the look in Shao Ling's eyes, Lian Ren immediately realized his mistake. He was about to open his mouth to apologize when Shao Ling spoke with a heave of his breath, "Fine. We walk hundreds of miles away from there." Shao Ling pursed his lips for a while until he opened up his palms, opening up his spatial ring and finding something in his storage. "I have something that will help here."
