The Rubix cube is awesome and everybody has at least seen it once.

But did you know....it never meant to be a toy at all?

The creator of the rubix cube was named "Erno Rubik" professor at a university.

Who was teaching architecture and design wanted to teach his students 3d dimensions.

What was his solution? The Rubix Cube! He started making it with rubber bands and wood that always broke sadly.

But he didn't give up and kept trying. After he used screws and metal for the core, it worked. The first prototype was built in 1974.

The problem was there were 43252003274489856000 possible configurations.(43+ quintillion)

He sold the blueprints to a company that manufactured chess piece. The Rubix Cube was sold world wide and many people started making more like 4x4x4x4 called "Rubix revenge". Such as 5x5x5x5 or even too 21x21x21x21. When it hit stores it became the toy of the year which was popular in many toy fairs. Originally called "The Magic Cube" by Erno Rubix but decided to be named after the creator, the name evolved into The Rubix Cube. In 1979 Rubix signed a deal with Ideal toys in 1980. At that moment the name turned to The Rubix Cube.

Now there are different kinds of rubix cubes. The main types are stickerless cubes and the cubes with stickers

stickerless cubes:

cubes with stickers:

In the world championship, the stickerless cubes were not used. Because when you turn it 180 degrees, you can see some of the other colors on the other side of the cube. Now most people think this is nothing (but a big deal / People don't care about it anymore). When it comes to speed-cubing; this might be helpful, so they used cubes with stickers instead.

But then they decided this rule was unnecessary so they removed it.

Now there are a few benefits to speed-cubing that people didn't have before. The cubes are much more flexible. If you turned a cube that was really old and didn't align it,it would be stuck.

In the modern age we can pull off much better tricks. For example, turn the top face 180 degrees and turn the right side, at the same time your previous movement will also turn with it.

Now why do most people never get bored of it?

It's because there are many and many events in competitions.

For example, one handed and blindfolded or even with your own feet.

The conclusion is that there is much more to the Rubix Cube but unfortunately this is the end of my article. Thank you for reading.

my comments: by the way I don't have a Rubix Cube
