"Hey Jamie, do you want to meet up today?" I asked as soon as he picked up.
"Um, today?"
"Yeah, that's what I said," I chuckled.
"Well, I...I can't. I have to finish that maths homework," he stuttered.
"Uh, Jamie? We didn't get maths homework?"
"Did I say maths? Sorry, I meant Physics. Anyway, the point is I can't, sorry Rosie. See you on Monday. Bye," he said quickly, hanging up. I sighed and put my phone down. I guess he just...got sick of me. I was probably appearing to clingy. Well the point of me asking to meet up was because I needed to go into town to buy a birthday present for Dad. Suddenly, I had a brainwave. Amy! Oh no, she was at a wedding this weekend. Great, I'll just be a loner. I grabbed my bag and headed downstairs. I told mum where I was going, and she happily let me go. Eventually I reached town, and decided on buying a Toblerone and a tie with The Simpsons on it for dad. I walked back out into the precinct but stopped as soon as I got outside. Jamie was there WITH ANOTHER BOY. They were laughing and messing around. Oh, bros before hoes and all that I guess, but he could of at least told me the truth! I wouldn't of minded at all! Sometimes I need to meet up with Amy so we can talk privately, and so I totally respect the fact that best friends come first. I'd never seen this boy before though. He had bleached white-blonde hair, black glasses and casual, modern clothes, and looked our age. They were now walking off, still chatting and laughing without a care in the world.
I couldn't stand to see anymore of this. I turned around and began walking home, more angry than upset. This is the second time Jamie has made me feel like this in two weeks. It wasn't right- not how a secure relationship should be. Now tears were flooding down my face. That's right Rosie, make a public display of yourself once again. It wasn't something to cry about, but I had been through a lot recently with Freddie etcetera, so I was a bit emotional still. When I got home I saw a moving truck outside next door's house. Oh yeah, the new neighbours are moving in today. Mum and dad were chatting to who I guessed were the parents, and Freddie was being chased by a boy who looked slightly younger than him. I wiped the salty tears from my cheeks and walked towards my gate.
"Are you okay?" A boy asked. He had floppy blonde hair and perfect blue eyes. Seriously, he could be straight from a movie. Stop Rosie, this is wrong. I have a boyfriend. Or do I? I don't know what is going on with Jamie and I at the moment. I'm allowed to think a guy is cute though, right? Or even jaw-gapingly gorgeous?
"Um, I'm fine," I smiled weakly.
"Good. I'm Ollie by the way. And I guess you live next door?"
"Yeah, Rosie. That's my mum, dad and brother Freddie. So, have you lived around this area before?" Whoa, where did that come from? I'm such a stalker.
"No, I moved here from Yorkshire."
"Oh, so...what school are you going to?" Seriously Rosie, QUIT it with the stalker talk.
"Middleday College. Where do you go?"
"Middleday College! I'm sorry, I guess you're stuck with me."
"I have no problem with that!" My heart was beating really fast now. I never felt like this around Jamie. He was always so wrapped up in making sure the populars still liked him. But Ollie actually wanted to talk to me in the first place. It wasn't for a dare. It wasn't to stay friends with the cooler group. It was because he cared.
"Anyway, I should probably go and help unpack. Maybe later you could give me a tour of the area?" He grinned.
"Sure," I smiled, more confident now.
"So I'll knock for you at 4? Is that okay?"
"Yeah, I'll see you then!"
"It's a date!" He winked, walking back over to his parents. I entered the house and let Spencer out into the garden, and then skipped upstairs. Wait. Did he just say it was a date? But what about Jamie? So I know what happened earlier, but shouldn't I at least give him a chance to explain? Nah, I'll talk to him at School on Monday. It was now 2:45, and wow was I starving. The rest of my family were still outside, so I quickly let Spencer into the garden, and then made a sandwich and took it upstairs, deciding to tell Amy everything that happened.
----------------------------------------------"Oh my gosh! This boy sounds amazing!"
"Yeah, he is! But this isn't making me feel better, Amy! I'm meant to me Jamie's girlfriend, remember?"
"Yeah, I know. But he's a cheating liar. You need to confront him on Monday. And then decide whether to break up or make up."
"Okay. Thanks Amy. Well, I'd better go and get ready. Cheers."
"Bye Hun. And don't forget, I'll need all the details tonight!" I laughed and hung up. I was already dressed in a Tardis tank top, denim shorts and white converse from meeting Jamie, so I just needed to brush my hair again and clean my teeth. I entered the bathroom and decided to ATTEMPT makeup. I tried winging my eyeliner. The first eye went perfectly. But the second eye... It was more of a squiggle than a flick. Sighing, I scrubbed it away and tried again. Better...yeah, it would have to do. I quickly finished my Chemistry homework, and then read Amy's new chapter on Wattpad. With still ten minutes to go, I ran downstairs and saw mum making cheese on toast for her, dad and Freddie in the kitchen, and Freddie sitting at the breakfast bar playing his DS. I guess dad was in the study. I grabbed my phone from the side and began to exit the room.
"Oh, Rosie. I assumed you had lunch with Jamie."
"Well, not exactly...but don't worry, I had a sandwich just now. Is it alright if I just take a walk with Ollie? You know, just to see the area?"
"Oh, the boy next door? Of course, but be back before dinner at 6:30. Your makeup looks nice, by the way," mum smiled.
"Oh, thanks. And don't worry, I'm sure we won't be long." Mum has always wanted me to wear more makeup and bother properly with how I look. But obviously not as much as girls like Roxie! Just then there was a knock at the door. I went into the hall and excitedly opened it.
"Hi...shall we go? Well, I'm not really sure where but-" Ollie gabbled.
"Yeah, um...how about we go into town? It's about a five minute walk from here?"
"Okay, sounds great," he grinned. "By the way, I love Doctor Who."
"You do?" I asked, shutting the front door behind me. We began walking towards town.
"Yeah, it's really good. Who's your favourite doctor?"
"Probably...Matt Smith. What about yours?"
"Well I kind of liked Tom Baker, but Christopher Eccleston would be my favourite."
"Okay, what about your favourite companion?"
"Rose, or possibly...no, Clara!"
"YES! Clara and Matt!"
"Aw, yeah! I can't believe I've finally found someone who I can have Doctor Who conversations with!" Ollie grinned. I giggled and pushed a part of loose hair behind my ear.
"This way," I mumbled, gently pushing Ollie down the right street. Even when we touched the slightest bit, I felt the same way as I do with Jamie. If not more. My brain is seriously messed up! We kept talking until we reached town. So he's not a crazy fanboy, he just likes Doctor Who. By the sound of it he was a bit of a popular at his old school. I just really hoped he liked me as a friend at least. Firstly, we went into Starbucks. Ah, great. Guess who was sitting there with his unknown friend? Jamie. They were still laughing. I rolled my eyes, ignoring him, and followed Ollie to the counter. I ordered my usual (an iced caramel frappe, I managed to find £7.43 in my pocket!) and Ollie ordered a strawberries and cream one. We sat down at a table when I heard the voice I was dreading.
"Um, Rosie? What are you doing here? Who's that?" Jamie asked. And the boy was next to him.
"This is Ollie. He's my new next door neighbour. And I could ask you exactly the same thing."
"And this is Tyrone. He's an old friend."
"Oh, okay. What didn't you just tell me that down the phone?" I ask, making eye contact with Jamie.
"Well, it's hard to explain. I-"
"Look, we'll talk on Monday. Right now I'm showing Ollie around, so if you could excuse us."
"Okay. See you on Monday," Jamie smiles cheerfully. I bit my lip as he exited the cafe.
"I'm so sorry about that!" I blushed. I felt so awful.
"Hey, it's fine! Who was that anyway?"
"Well...I'm not really sure...um..."
"Don't worry. I shouldn't have asked that, I'm sorry."
"Nah, it's fine. It's just...complicated at the moment," I sighed.
We soon finished our drinks and headed for the town centre containing the best shops. I dragged Ollie into Topshop (I know, way to impress a boy. But there was a SALE!) even though I couldn't afford anything. He followed me round, but we were only in there for five minutes.
"Okay, I'm sorry. You choose a shop next."
"How about the comic store?"
"Cool." I loved the comic book store. I bought a new comic at least once a month! In the end I bought an Amazing Spider-Man comic and Ollie bought an X-Men one.
"Is there anywhere else you'd like to go? Not necessarily in town?"
"Er...is there a park around here?"
"Ooooh yes, great idea!" We entered the grand park gates and passed the bench where Jamie and I kissed. At first I felt the ball of sadness tighten around my throat, but then I remembered who I was with and it soon shrank away. We got ice creams from the van and sat on the grass, eating quietly. Ollie got a bit on his nose, causing us both to laugh hysterically. A posh woman walking her dog tutted as she strode past. Once she had passed Ollie swore at her under his breath.
"Ollie!" I giggled.
"What? She didn't hear, did she?" He grinned.
"I guess not..."
----------------------------------------------I was so happy when I got home that as soon as the front door was shut I skipped into the kitchen, singing 'dancing through life' from Wicked in Broadway style.
"Rosie? Are you okay?" Mum asked, looking at me in a peculiar way.
"Yeah. Fine," I grinned.
"Good. Well dinner's in about ten minutes." Great opportunity to call Amy, I nodded and ran upstairs to tell her. I know, we don't usually ave twenty minute long conversations twice a day, but I was excited to tell her everything!
