"Family" Roadtrip

Andy's POV

When Val first told me that she was coming with me I was totally against I don't need a babysitter but, on the other had hours alone with just her, me, and the road.

" You ready" she walked up to me rubbing my back.

I realized that from the time we started "talking" till now Val has enjoyed physical touch way more than I thought she would.

"Yeah just packing up the last of it" I said looking back at her she was gorgeous even when she was sweaty.

She stopped turned around and kissed me on the cheek.

"I heard that" she grinned before skipping away.

"Hey!" I shouted I could hear her laughing from inside the truck.

"Pee bucket, scalpel," I had forgot my dad was there we haven't really been on the best terms lately.

We saw my mom walking out of the building and my dad ran to her.

I couldn't hear what they were saying probably doubting me but I know someone who could.

"Val"

"Yeah"

"Can you listen to what there saying? I just what to know what they think about this. " I asked trying to give her puppy eyes like I used to do with Lauren.

"Fine back up give me some space" she said pushing me away.

"Okay your mom just asked if your dad is sure to be bring you along- wait he's coming?" She asked.

"I didn't know till now I wanted to be alone too." I said grabbing at her waist.

"Anyways your dad thinks it's a good thing he wants to connect with you".

"Your mom said "nothing says family bonding like breaking into a federal building."" I couldn't help but laugh she looked at me and started laughing too.

"Okay okay your dad just said this is our best shot super seriously and your mom gets it but she doesn't like it". She finished off before Marco came around the corner.

"Y'all ready to go?"

"Wait you're coming too?" Val said in a monotone as always.

"Yes I'm  coming did you think it was just going to be you two." He asked

"No" "Yes" we answered at the same time of course she said yes being blunt as always I looked at her with wide eyes.

"What we wanted alone time right?". She looked at me with a confused face at me.

"Welp sorry to burst your bubble but we got to go" he said hopping into the truck.

"Guess it'll just be me, you, Marco and your dad it practically a family road trip" she said with a fake cheerful voice"

"We'll what are you waiting for get in kids" she said clapping her hands.

This is going to be a long ride.

2 hour later

Val had fallen asleep 30 minutes after we took off I guess she was pretty exhausted I almost never see her sleeping.

I made sure to check on her every now and then to make sure she wasn't having a night terror I think it was called.

"You guys might want to get some rest it's a long ride to Baton Rouge" Marco said turning over.

Honestly I wasn't that tired all we can really do at the fortress is sleep so I started beatboxing to pass the time.

"I haven't heard you do that in a long time" my dad finally spoke up.

"Yeah the guys at school used to think it was weird"

"We didn't get the chance to talk about what was going on with you at school-" he stopped

Val sifted in her sleep then laid her head on my lap.

"You know I tried to help I went to see your guidance counselor".

"Yeah I know, you know that's the whole reason those guys came after me that night in the gym right?". I was getting a bit annoyed talking about this now.

He looked stunned " I wish you'd talk to me about it before it got that bad".

Is he serious "like when at midnight when you got home".

"Maybe there's a chance to talk about it now" I could tell he was reaching out but I was over it already and needed to move on.

"Now when we're in a hot truck peeing in a bucket". What can I say when in doubt joke it out.

He laughed "I don't think we should let the pee bucket come between us" he joked back.

Before I could reply Val jumped up "everyone get up we got company".

Just then we heard police sirens "PULL OVER!" 

"Cops" Marco said sitting up.

"Yeah no shit Sherlock" wow she was grumpy.

My dad tried to but his feet down then all of a sudden we all heard Val's thoughts.

"Don't move we need a plan he's going to look back here".

"We need you to open the back up"

"Uh some relocation boxes have TP in there." Our diver tried to get the cop to go away.

"Well I'm going to need to see them". We're so screwed.

" If he tries to come in I can fight him off" I offered.

"Fight him off absolutely not" my dad got what walking towards me.

" Hey Reed if you don't have any ideas then sit down and be quiet before you get us all caught with your runny mouth" Val said in a low threatening tone.

"As much as this pains me to say and trust me it does he's right we need to keep a low profile for as long as possible".

"If you all turn of the lights I might be be able to hide us" Marco said.

"There's no where to go" my dad said jumping back in.

"I've absorbed light before I admit it if I can absorb enough- just stay quite"

Val rolled her eyes and took Marcos hand. Her eyes turned blue and red like they did when she shook Shatters hand.

"There now we can do it together every shut up, turn off he lights, then go to the back."

She looked at Marco " let's do this".

They got on their knees in the middle of the truck strings of light from the ceiling floated to their hands and the started glowing till it was pitch black.

The cop came with a flash light looking all trying to find something.

I could Marco grunting and Val assuring him that it almost over.

Finally the cop got called to another scene and left.

As the truck driver was closing the door Marco let go of the light and fell back.

"You're such a big baby" Val chuckled. Then helped him up.

"Ha mutant:1 humans:0" she said clearly proud of herself.

But she right finally Mutants:1.
