Just an A/N I thought some of you might like to know: The other village, el Poder, is based off San Gil, Columbia. San Gil is another Colombian village near the village the Encanto was based on (from my research). From the images it is actually a very beautiful place and some places from there will be incorporated into the story.

I was running, away from him, away from Carlos.

"Oh, y/n, mi mariposa~" I heard Carlos call out in the distance behind me. "You can't outrun me, love!" I pushed past a bush covered and thorns and hissed through my teeth, feeling my skin being scratched, and continued running.

I was so close, so close to finding the ashes of the old town where I could hide and look for the one thing that could bring the village, El Poder, back its magic. So they could be protected and so their miracle could continue to be passed down. I saw the stones and gravel and smiled graciously. 'I'm going to make it' I thought to myself as my foot landed on one of the stones. I turned one of the corners, behind a demolished building, and caught my breath. I looked behind the ruins of the building but saw no one. I carefully took a step out and sighed.

"Why are you hiding mi mariposa?" I felt Carlo's deep voice whisper behind me, making the hairs on my neck raise. I felt his arms wrap around my torso and I quickly pushed him off, moving forward and facing him, there was no escaping from him.

He chuckled and I noticed his form turn into a dark shadow before showing up behind me. I whipped my head around and swung my fist, punching him in the jaw. He stumbled back and stood in place for a moment, holding the spot I had punched him in and I saw blood trickle from his mouth onto the ash-covered stones. He laughed and looked back, his face becoming more and more distorted. This is who made El Poder powerless. 'Not who, what, the shadow figure not a person, a monster' I reminded myself.

El Mohán swung its leg, kicking me in the side. I stumbled backward while holding my side. I looked up and saw the monster charging. I quickly dodged and knocked El Mohán down. I sat on the monster's midsection as it thrashed around. Changing form multiple times. From people who I recognized from the Encanto until it finally turned into Carlos. I pinned its arms above its head and my knees lightly scraped the ground from keeping all of my weight on it.

The monster seemed to wear out and its eyes closed. I relaxed and took a breath before noticing its eyes snapping wide open and clashing its head on mine. I yelled in pain. I started to feel dizzy but quickly grabbed a piece of rubble nearby, letting go of one of its hands for a quick second and smacking the half of brick against its temple, knocking it out. I sighed with relief as I watched the blood trickle from its head. I got up and started to walk around. I side-stepped as my eyes struggled to stay open, the blood rushing to my head, I needed to find the necklace.

"y/n!" I heard a familiar voice call out from the distance, the owner's silhouette standing on the hill at the edge of the destroyed town.

"Camilo..." I whispered and smiled. My hand slid against a loose brick as I watched Camilo run towards me. I fell to my knees and started to fall forward, the whole world turning in circles as I heard Camilo's footsteps approach.

Finally, everything went black.

*flashback during blackout*

*y/n's POV*

I huffed as I put my hands on my knees, shouldering my bag, I caught my breath. I was exhausted from running away from a noise following me through the forest. From there I found the grass colliding with a stone path. I followed the path and walked along with it. People stopped beside me, looking at my dirtied clothes and my mangled hair.
