y/ns POV

I walk through the town with Abuela until we reach a secluded area, it was mainly forest except for a dusty, bone dry, outline of a river.

"Abuela, why did you take me here?" I ask and turn around to face her.

"I took you here because this was the source of our power....our gifts..." she sighed and looked away for a moment before talking again.

"y/n ever since the El Mohán dried up our river...our town has stopped thriving. We survive but we lost what makes us special..." she reached her hand out and touched my cheek. "The only way to get our water flowing again is to find the crystal missing from the center of the rivera," she motioned towards the small circular indent in the dried-up river before whispering into my ear "It's in the old town you must find it nieta," she backed away for a moment and stared into my eyes. I was about to ask her what she meant but she continued.

"You somehow are able to use your gift without needing the magic of the water," she turned walked around me and brushed something off my shoulder.

She stood tall and had a sharp look in her eyes. She looked powerful and made me feel weak. It was something I use to experience with Abuela Madrigal. I shivered.

"...your father...he gave you this," she lifted the necklace I wore on my neck and examined it before ripping it off my neck with excruciating force.

Camilo's POV

I was panicked at the thought that this is the place that Abuela had to run away from 50 years ago. She told us the story but just being here in the aftermath of it all overwhelmed me. I grabbed the medical kit and walked briskly down the stairs. My eyes turned to y/n, who was still asleep. I opened the medical kit and started on y/n's wounds, trying to ignore the flood of questions rushing into my head.

Y/N's POV

I placed my hands on my throat, the pain of the silver that I had worn leaving a burning sensation on my skin. Abuela pushed me backward and I fell into the empty riverbed, dust shooting up into the air from where I landed. I screamed as pain shot up my leg, the same place I had broken my ankle. I looked up with tears in my eyes and saw her standing over me.

"I'm sorry y/n, it was the only way," she had a determined look on her face and she walked away from the pit that she had left me in. I stood up and winced as my ankle felt like it was on fire but it wasn't broken, sprained? Maybe. but not broken.

"S-somebody help! Help me!" I shouted and screamed for help as the edge of the pit was just about a foot taller than me. There was no way to climb out from what I could see.

"Help! Somebody please!" I shouted once again only this time there was the faint sound of footsteps coming from above.

"Y/n!" the voice shouted.

I recognized it.

It was Carlos.

"Carlos?" I shouted, questioning the voice above.

"It's me, mariposa" I looked up and saw his head appear over the edge, his bouncy curls falling over his face.

"Thank the gods it's you" I laughed and wiped a tear from my right eye. He reached his hand towards me and I latched onto it. Carlos has always physically been larger than me and stronger so it wasn't hard for him to pull me up. Once I was back on the ground, I stood up and wiped the dirt from my legs.

Immediately I hugged him. Probably too hard as he winced but he didn't say anything about it. He pushed me back by my shoulders and examined me. Then, his gaze lingered over my neck. He grit his teeth and looked back into my eyes.

"Y/n..." His voice sounded agitated "...where is the necklace?" His grip on my shoulders tightened before he let go and looked at me with his cool composure he usually had. I told him everything that happened and he snarled.

"Don't worry Mariposa..." He attempted to kiss me but I dodged it and his kiss landed on my cheek. I don't know why I dodged it but I did. He stared at me and stepped back. "I'll get your necklace back from that old hag" and before I could say anything he was already leaving. I looked around at my surroundings and decided it would be best to head back to the village.

I got back to the village and it was eerily quiet. I went to the fountain and looked around but saw nobody. Not even a child. It looked almost abandoned. My hands traced the outside of the fountain and I felt a dent in the stone. I looked to observe it and saw it was a carving, an older looking one at that.

I crouched and looked at the carvings. I've seen the carvings that engulphed the walls of Bruno's room. These were similar. Each carving told a story, I traced around until I reached a carving that looked like...like me...
