Chapter nine
Mia's pov
If I and Leighton remain friends or if not, I will always have the utmost respect and admiration for him. Just listening to him asking and offering to pay the expense for the connecting of the pipe main and plumbing so that the homeless people could have clean water was so heartwarming.
"I know you have work in the morning and so do I, so are you ready to go?" He asked after he was finished with his phone call.
"Yes. Thank you so much for this evening," I told him getting up.
"No, I'm the one who should be thanking you," he said taking my hand as we began our walk back to the front.
We walked to the side of the building and into the car park, I walked in the direction of my car and stopped at the back of it.
"Thank you for accepting to go out with a boring man like myself," he said and we both chuckled lightly.
"It was a pleasure," I told him.
"When will I see you again?" He asked lowly.
I stood looking up at him not knowing what to say, the fairy lights making his eyes glow. His head was coming down to mine, it stopped a breath in front of my face and I swallowed nervously. Then he closes the gap, his lips touching mine lightly. They were warm and his tongue pried my lips open, my whole body alighted and I responded to his tongue and lips.
We were both breathing deeply when we broke apart and it was then I realized we were hugging each other. I trembled and looked down from his burning gaze.
"Is this your ride?" He ask with our hands sliding gingerly from off of each other.
"Yes, it is?" I croaked. Damn my throat I thought embarrassingly.
He took hold of my hand and walked to the driver's side, "drive safely home and messaged me so I know you have reached home safely," he said and if I wasn't paying rapt attention, I would have missed the slight tremor in his voice.
"Ok, you drive safely home too," I said and took out my key from my jacket pocket.
I went in and drive off, I put distance behind me, timing him to enter his car and drive out. I sped away over the speed limit home, then park and walked to the trees near the road, seeing his car drive by five minutes later, going at a normal speed. My thoughts were full of him for the night and the next day at work, I told myself a hundred times to end this before it got too far- because I will more than likely get my heart break.
Yet I accepted his offer to accompany him the following Saturday to choose lumber and have lunch miles away. Amy messaged me to say he and a group of plumbers were installing water pipes. I was excited and after my lunch break, I calculated the price for the solar panels he had told her about. The price for them was more than two weeks' pay, but I was going to buy them and get them set up so that we could have energy stored up for the coming winter.
Mrs. Grey was paired with me for the next day's job and we drove in my car to the location, it was a four-bedroom apartment just remodeled and up for sale.
"This would've been nice for me and my family," Mrs. Grey said as we looked around. "But the price, I'll just work and save to furnish my new home, besides I'm happy there and I have lovely, kind and thoughtful neighbors," she smile.
I smile, "speaking of furniture, I really need to buy some. I'm so happy we now have a house," I said.
"My son's say we have to get our solar system set up first, so we can have energy stored up for the coming winter. So we'll just have to wait a little bit longer for furnitures," she reasoned.
