Chapter eight
Mia's pov
Mrs. Grey was looking anxious when I went outside, her husband was using a shovel to kind of paved a walk way for us.
"A pleasant good morning," I greet them both."Morning," they respond in unison.
"Good luck with your interview today," I said directing this at Mrs. Grey.
"Thanks. Keith my youngest son will be going to work with Mr. Laing and his crew, aint that lovely?" she said and ask proudly.
"It sure is," I reply with a smile.
I went back inside and count out a thousand dollars, fold it up and went back out. Walking up to her I discreetly put it in her hand and whispered. "I hope this can help with your expenses."
"Thank you," she said without looking at the amount. "I'm going to go get ready for our interview."
"See you later then," I told her.
Amy had Mya admiring the car when I got there. "I'll take you both for a drive when I get home this evening," I told her.
"We will be waiting," she said happily.
Sweating as I scrubbed and cleaned a two bedroom apartment my phone rang and I answered Leighton.
"Good morning, I hope you are having a beautiful day," I said.
"I am, good morning. I hope I don't sound too grumpy, but I waited the whole day on your call yesterday," he said.
Feeling bad I said. "Oh, I'm so sorry, I was busy," I said regretfully.
"It's ok, he said.
How is work treating you so far? I ask.
"Not too bad, a bit tired but I'm ok," he replies.
"Oh, it seems you didn't get much rest the day before," I said and felt bad for trying to make the conversation as if I didn't know he and his crew worked their butts off so that I slept in a house for the first time in almost three years.
"I had an emergency project popped up, two homeless family were in need of immediate shelter- so me and my crew went and got it done," He stated casually.
"That's amazing, thank you very much. For doing that for them, I mean that's just so kind and selfless of you and your team. I'm sure they are more than greatful," I said meaningfully.
"I'm sure they are, these projects are always more rewarding in more ways than one. You know I've gotten a potential team member from amongst them and they chipped in and work so hard even one woman who had a baby. There zeal has motivated me so much, it makes me feel so good in myself," He reasoned.
"Wow! Just awesome," I said in absolute amazement at how he was praising Amy and my friends, he and his crew are the ones who deserved the praise.
"Is it ok if I call you later?" He asked.
"Better yet is it possible I could perhaps take you to dinner? Well a date yes, but not really fancy dress up thing, just dinner where we can eat and chat casually-"
There was a pause and then he said. "I'm sorry, I'm not really good at this."
"That makes two us, I hope you're not disappointed in me," I told him.
