              Chapter four

                  Mia's pov

I spent the next day feeling low, Amy continuously offered comforting words and phrases to me. A family came with their belongings to seek shelter and everyone looked at them with mixed perceptions that Sunday evening. Along with some furniture and clothes they had a car. It was obvious that the truck driver who dropped off their things is their friend as he stayed with them chatting for a while, they looked distressed but clean and healthy, unlike some of whom have came and made here their home.

Everyone looked suspiciously at them as they tried to greet everyone, a good move which will just be wasted if they do not keep their eyes on their possessions. Three adult males, two adult females and two young boys looking to be between the ages of seven and nine. The truck driver drive away after they talked had and looked around together for a while.

Two of the males got into the car and drive off and the one who kept looking around with distaste written on his face suddenly looked up at me. His eyes darken and I stared back at him, unwilling to look away. His attention was drawn away by the middle-aged woman touching his arm and saying something to him, I went inside and stayed in for the rest of the evening getting my things organized for the workweek, then going to sleep afterward.

The next morning neatly dressed heading to work, I stopped by the store that had just opened for business. I walked in without any hindrance wishing the man standing at the door a pleasant good morning. I looked around and saw several sizes of the pink coat I had wanted for my daughter. After choosing her size, a lovely stylish one for myself and one I deemed nice enough for Amy I went and cash them.

"Did you people stock up yesterday?" I asked the cashier who was the one working here on Saturday.

"I don't understand your question but I think not," she said looking at me.

I shook my head and glared at her.

"Is there a problem?" The man who kept the door asked as I was turning away.

Hissing my teeth nastily I said, "I asked to buy this coat on Saturday and you people thought this color was too good for me to buy. See now I've bought the color I wanted, you'll always be working here in the position you are with your mentality. People like you guys will keep down a company, now my daughter as two coats. You have made it better for me, not worst," I said then walked out with my head held high, glad I spoke my hurt out.

I went to our grocery store and asked our friend to keep the shopping bag containing the coats for me. "Have a great workday, you look absolutely stunning when you clean up," she said causing me to pause on my walk out.

"Thank you, have a great day too," I said and walked off feeling even more confident in myself.

The team of us took our lunch break sitting out on the apartment block's small stylish porch area, this job wasn't that hard and we will be done by late afternoon I guessed. The building had been recently renovated and we will clean all the apartments until we were finished. It was beautiful and I enquired a bit about it from Mrs. Simms, who killed my interest in it from the moment she mentioned the price per month.

It was located in a lovely neighborhood and was close to the town, but why they charge so much for rent was beyond me, because the rooms were small and there wasn't anything else interesting about it other than a safe place to lay one's head. Although, nowhere is truly safe I reminded myself.
