               Chapter six

                 Mia's pov

A series of sneezes woke me up early the following morning. I got up seeing Amy over the stove and I checked the time. It was too late to go for the water. Seeing her with the towel over her shoulder, I got up and began putting everything in place so she wouldn't have to leave the shack. Plugging in the warm bottle, I place it at the bottom of her mattress, I changed her bedcloths and packed our dirty clothes away. I would go to the laundromat to do our laundry and fill up our water bottles when I get home, making at least two trips before it was too late.

"Will you be alright or should I call the nurse?" I ask her already knowing her answer.

"No, I'll be fine after I have eaten and taken two cold and sinus tablets," she said.

"Call me immediately if you feel worse, I'll try my best to come home early," I said.

"Ok, have a good day. Bye," she said.

On my way to catch a taxi, I text our nurse friend, she replied immediately assuring me she'd stop by before going to work. I worry for the whole time at work nonetheless, she will not hear of Mya staying with anyone and that was my main worry- Mya could be a handful at times.

When I got home that evening, our laundry was done and waiting to be folded and our drums and containers were filled with water. I saw Ms. Grey and waved calling her, I had almost forgotten the message Mrs. Simms gave me that afternoon.

"Good evening."

"Good evening Mrs. Grey, my supervisor Mrs. Simms asks that you and your daughter come in for an interview on Monday morning. I did not mention about your sons but I heard there is another opening, so be sure to ask her discreetly if there is any more available positions," I told her as she listened intently.

"Oh thank you so much," she said hugging me, I chuckled and hug her back.

"You're welcome and I hope you both get the job," I told her.

"We will, I'm confident. Oh by the way, is your mother feeling better?" She said then asked.

"She'll come around, it's her sinuses they sometimes rear their ugly head," I answered.

"I hope she feels better, because I hadn't check back on her since we finished carrying the water. Please tell her I'll see her tomorrow," Ms. Grey said.

"You carried water?" I asked looking at her nicely manicured fingers. They haven't look that bad since they arrived a week ago and they have set up a shack at an empty spot more to the back.

"Yes, me and my sons did after she said that she needed. It was nothing, we have nothing to do and we liked to help out wherever we can," she assured me.

I nodded, "well I can't thank you enough. Thank you and your sons," I said appraisingly.

"Don't mention it. You people live so good here, much better than my last two neighbors," she said on a deep sigh.

"You and your family are gonna be ok," I told her.

"We will," she said with a close lip smile and we then parted ways.

I prepared some soup for our dinner, then after we had eaten I washed up the dishes and bathe Mya. Amy went to the tiny curtained off area where I had put our compost toilet that morning and I made up her bed, shaking out her pillows before she was done. Leighton texted asking if I was afraid to call him and I replied back saying no and that I would call him the following day. He sent photos of him and his dog that he said he had taken earlier that day. After telling him they looked nice, it seemed I fell asleep.
