TOP OF THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDINGMIDNIGHT
VIENNA
Vienna reached her hand out, inching it towards the bomb,
3...
the wind started blowing,
2...
the wind picked up,
1...
a HUGE gust of wind blew, at the exact same time, Vienna's hand made contact with the bomb.
BOOM
And for a split second... everything was peaceful. Vienna disregarded the heat that singed her flesh lightly, Vienna was just a ballerina on the highest ledge of the Empire State Building, until that gust of wind and momentum of the explosion quite literally knocked her off her feet.
Vienna Wallace was no longer a ballerina on the edge of a building. She was free falling with flailing arms. And instead of reaching her pale hands out towards the building with closed eyes, like she'd done several times in her nightmare, this time, Vienna let a phrase words of her guidance counsellor, who she just exploded echo in her mind: ❝perhaps it's your mind warning you. You know what they say, dreams are just warnings from deep within.❞
THUMP. THUMP. THUMP.
That's what her nightmare had been the entire time, a warning. Somehow, Vienna's intuition had been trying to warn her this entire time that she couldn't trust Mr. Davis, the man she fucking told this nightmare to religiously.
THUMP. Vienna opened her eyes; she watched as the top of the Empire State building got further and further away. THUMP-- The air from her lungs left abruptly, and for the first time since the Oscorp explosion, Vienna felt at peace.
It didn't matter that Vienna could feel herself losing consciousness, it didn't matter that even more Radium had entered her bloodstream, this was it, she was bracing for impact, Vienna would hit the ground in minutes if not seconds.
❝VIENNA!❞
Spiderman, well, Peter screamed. The boy was rushing down fast from the very tip of the Empire State Building. He'd arrived just when Vienna had activated the bomb. The boy was attempting to weave himself through fallen rubble to get to her. This Radium bomb had to be the biggest one yet.
❝VIENNA, VIENNA!❞
Peter rushed forward, continuing his dive through the air to reach her. From what he could see, Vienna was falling way faster than he would've liked. The boy made a split-second choice to shoot a web with one hand at Vienna, and the other on a pillar attached to the building.
The web caught Vienna's shirt, it stuck, just in the divine timing too. Any second later and Vienna would've smashed into concrete. Peter's web propelled Vienna up into the air, and Peter caught her, he had her safely in his arms.
The boy swung them to a rooftop nearby, and Vienna's head was tucked into Peter's neck. She was awfully silent, in shock from the entire event that had just unfolded.
Thump.
Peter's latex-clad feet landed on the rooftop, and the second they did, Peter sat Vienna down on the ground, in his lap, he cradled her bridle-style.
❝Vienna,❞ Peter brushed the hair from her eyes, ❝Vee...❞
Peter felt his heart stop. ❝Vienna! Vienna, Vee, come on, open your eyes, Vienna.❞
Peter had been so caught up in trying to reach Vienna earlier, he hadn't realized what he couldn't hear... Vienna's heartbeat.
The thing he listened to steady his own... ❝Sunshine...❞ his voice cracked.
THUMP.
THUMP.
THUMP
Radium had been the cause of Vienna's death, yet, it had also marked the beginning of it too.
THE END
