Amelia And Kai

Chapter 9

Amelia's POV

It's been a week since me and Kai kissed. We just went back to work after and then continued our little flirtation, but not acting on it. I had to fly home but I'm flying back tomorrow. I'm at grey-sloan doing a few simple aneurysm clips.

I had just finished a surgery when I got a page from Maggie to meet her in the cafeteria. I just assumed she wanted to talk about Winston or something silly so I wasn't worried, but I was hungry. When I got there I grabbed an apple and made my way to find Maggie.

"Hey" I greet her smiling.

"Hi," she greets back, but she was not as enthusiastic as I was.

"What's wrong?" I ask

"Umm," she starts. "I don't know how you're going to respond, but umm.. Link has started seeing someone else."

"What?" I ask, strangely not jealous or mad, but happy for him. "Who?"

"I think her name was Katie or something. They apparently met at some medical retreat like 5 years ago but recently reconnected."

"Oh, well that's good for him I guess." I respond, unfazed.

"Wait-" she remarks, shocked by my reaction. "You're not mad or anything?"

"Why would I be?" I ask. "I mean I guess I'm surprised. But I've moved on, he has the same right to do so"

"WAIT WHAT" she yells. "You've moved on? Wow you get married and move out and suddenly hear nothing."

"Calm down," I reply, rolling my eyes. "It was just one kiss and some flirting."

"You KISSED" she continues to yell at me.

"Will you be quiet" I ask

"NO, YOU'VE KISSED SOMEONE AND I HAVEN'T HEARD ABOUT IT. I WILL NOT QUIET DOWN UNTIL YOU TELL ME DETAILS."

"Ok ok fine," I give in, blushing just thinking about it. "Well it's the neuroscientist that's working with me and Mer in Minnesota. Their name is Kai Bartley. We went out for dinner one night and then we kissed the next day. Then I had to fly home and we haven't talked about it." I finish, trying to tell her as little as possible but still satisfy her need to know.

"So... do you want it to go somewhere?" She asks.

"I don't know. I mean they are amazing. They understand me more than I thought was even possible. But I have a life here that I don't want to just leave and I don't want to do long distance." I answer honestly.

"What are we talking about?" Meredith walks up and sits next to us.

"Amelia's new crush." Maggie replies for me.

"Ooh, so you know about Bartley?" Meredith asks Maggie

"Wait SHE KNEW AND I DIDN'T" Maggie once again starts to yell at me about not knowing.

"What- no, wait how DO you know?" I respond, turning to meredith.

"Oh please, you two were basically having sex in front of me." He replies like it's nothing. "The eyes, the blushing. You two are worse than teenagers."

"Alright I'm done, I have an aneurysm to clip." I say walking away from them and going to find my resident.

I scrubbed out of my last surgery of the day. It is 10:00 and all I want is to go home and sleep because I have an early flight tomorrow morning.

I start to walk to the attending lounge, but am so tired I walk right into someone. Link.

"Oh I'm so sorry." I apologize.

"It's ok, umm" he responds.

"So umm I heard you had started seeing someone else." I said awkwardly. 'I don't want things to be weird between us. We've both moved on so are we cool?" I ask. He almost looks hurt but responds with

"Umm yeah, we're cool."

"Ok good. Well umm, I'm going to head home, see you later?" I question starting to walk away.

"Yeah, see you around." He walks away. As awkward as that conversation was, I think it was necessary. Now there's no hard feelings or miscommunications or anything like that. We're cool, we can co-exist.

I got changed and headed home, falling asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.
