Amelias POV
I get a call from Merideth saying there's a private jet on its way to take me to Minnesota to meet her. Me and link were going well, until he proposed. I dont understand why, we had agreed to wait because I wasn't ready.I got dressed in jeans a red shirt, and a blue and red checkered blazer. I continued getting ready in the morning, it was weird to be alone because link and I were living together but he was now staying with Jo. I finished eating my breakfast and got going to the airport.
I boarded the private jet that meredith told me about I was thinking about link. He loved me and wanted more than I was ready for, when I thought about my future he was in it but not in the way he wanted. I decided to catch up on some sleep on the plane to pass the time.
As the plane landed I woke up. I texted mer I landed safely. She stresses about people on planes after her plane crash. She responded and told me where in the hospital to meet her once I got there. I got a cab to the hospital, and I just let my mind wonder wherever it went.
I got to the hospital and I tried to find meredith, but I got lost twice, which seemed like a metaphor for my life. I finally found mer in a hallway that had windows down the whole things, it was quite pretty.
She took me to a lab that said 'The Grey Center' on the door.
"Wait, are you kidding? they're giving you a lab, oh you're definitely not coming back to Seattle." I said "By the way who actually sent the private je-" I was cut off my Meredith
"Amelia, were getting offered millions of dollars to cure Parkinson's" Merideth said
"Us? I said
"Well me, but I'm asking you so its us," she replied. We both just stared at the door.
I checked Dr. Hamilton neuro status, he was the one offering merideth the lab. He wanted her to help cure his disease.
"You know back in my day every neuro surgeon I worked with was an egotistical prick, so imagine my delight, you are brilliant and CHArming Dr. Shepard" he said emphasizing the word charming.
"Well except when I'm being an egotistical prick" I remarked back sarcastically.
"Well as my friend Stephen Sondheim said, 'nice is different than good'" he quoted
"You're friends with Stephen Sondheim?" Merideth piped in.
"Ehh I could be" Dr. Hamilton replies
"Okay follow my movements" I said, flipping my hands over. There was silence as he tried to copy my movements.
"So dr. Shepard, what's your golden opinion how do I look?" He asked, hopeful.
"Well you only have a mild resting tremor, and slight bradykinesia, which is good, but Parkinson's is unpredictable. I said truthfully. "Your dopaminergic neurons are degenerating gradually and it's only a matter of time. Have you considered switching your meds, or deep-brain stimulation? I asked.
"You know, im not interested in a band-aid, I need something that'll make me whole again." He said.
I tried to explain the severity of his disease nicely, and explained there is no surgery that can fix it.
"Yet" he said. With brilliant charming egotistical you I think we can find one, If we can convince your sister in law over there." He said looking at mer.
Mer looked at me, saying 'yeah I know, crazy' without saying a thing.
