There were only a couple more days of school left and the air had changed in the castle to one of tension. Which was weird, because the only thing off was that no one could seem to find Dumbledore anywhere. What was usual was that Vincent, Gregory, and Draco were again off somewhere, leaving me alone and bored.
The night air was unusually warm; the perfect weather for watching the universe. The moon was full and all the stars could easily be seen with the naked eye. So, I went up to the roof to have the perfect evening stargazing.
I was lying on my back, picking out constellations, when something I never would have thought would happen, happened. A huge, green, smoking cloud appeared in the air above me. The fog started to transform as I stood up, open mouthed and amazed. A skill formed above me. Its mouth opened and out slithered the outline of a snake; The Dark Mark was floating above me. Something big was about to happen. Usually when the Mark was put over a building it meant that someone was going to die.
I ran as fast as I could back into the castle, knowing I had to find Uncle Severus. If anyone, he would know what was going on. But I didn't have to look too hard. I ran straight into his chest.
To my surprise, he wasn't alone. Bellatrix LaStrange was beside him, looking ready to burst from joy. A couple other Death Eaters that I recognized but didn't know by name were around them.
"Uncle Severus, what's going on?"
"It doesn't concern you. You need to keep away and-"
"Obviously it concerns me; I have the Mark as well as you do!"
"We're going to watch Dracky-Poo's big triumph!" Bellatrix singsonged. My eyes widened.
"You mean he's going what the Dark Lord-"
"You bet your biscuits he is!" She began manically laughing. I took in a sharp breath. I could figure it out, finally! What could he do that I could not? Bellatrix started to go forward. I began to follow, but Uncle Severus grabbed my arm.
"No! You aren't going!"
"Why not?!"
"Because you will try to interfere!"
"How do you know?!"
"Oh, come on, Snapey! Let her see the old geezer croak!"
"Old g- Who?!"
"Now, I thought you were supposed to be smart! Who would the Dark Lord want rid of more than anyone? Think real hard, now!" She clicked her tongue. My eyes widened almost as much as Luna Lovegood's on a normal day.
"Oh, Merlin!" I exclaimed, "Dumbledore! He's going to kill Dumbledore! Oh-!" I covered my mouth.
"You got it!" Bellatrix's laugh echoed across the corridor, oddly sending chills up my spine.
That was it. Draco was going to kill our headmaster! Vincent and Gregory were helping him! Why couldn't I impress him instead? I could get the glory.
Making up my mind, I started to sprint towards LeStrange, but I was grabbed again by my Uncle. Only this time, he grabbed me by the waist and pulled me back.
"Hey!" I started to struggle against his grip, which only made it get tighter. I pulled my wand from my pocket to send whatever curse came to mind at him, but he took it also.
"It's for your own good!"
"No it's not! I want to do it! I can prove that I am much stronger than him! I-Ah!" Suddenly, I was thrown into a broom closet on the other side of the hall. The door was slammed in my face. "Let me out!" I screamed, wiggling the door knob. I had a feeling it had been jinxed shut. "You can't do this!" I knocked on the door, pounding it even harder.
"Yes, I can. I'm supposed to protect you and that is what I'm doing."
"I can handle myself!"
"I'm sorry, Eleanor."
"No! No! Let me out!" I started pounding again. When almost five minutes passed, I gave up. He had already left me here alone, locked in a broom closet. With nothing else to do, I slid down the door and sat down, beginning to cry.
