Covering Up

I woke up with Sarah Beth on top of me. She was cuddled up against me with her arms wrapped around my arm in a tight hug. Pieces of her hair was in my mouth. Kind of grossed out, I started spitting out the curls. When my mouth was finally hair-ridden, I pulled her off of me. She moaned and opened her eyes a bit.

"Ellie? what are you dong?" She yawned, sitting up a tad.

"Gong running." I flatly answered.

"Okay." She closed her eyes before letting her face fall back into the pillow. I shook my head. I want sure if I could stand her for more than a couple more days. At least she wasn't going running with me. I needed to enjoy it while I could. There was no doubt in my mind that when I got back she would latch onto me and I would have no alone.

Once I ate the small breakfast Uncle Severus had laid out for me and got Orion, we were off into the cool morning air. The sun wasn't out yet, so none of the dew had started evaporating. Every so often Orion would stop to lick the small patches of grass that had grown up between cracks of the pavement to get a drink. We ran all the way to the other side of Spinner's End with out breaking a sweat.

I turned around and started back towards my house.

"Good morning, Dear!" I was greeted. I stopped and looked; it was Mrs. Montradale, one of the two Muggles that lived in the neighborhood, putting food out on her front stoop for her many cats.

"Good morning, Mrs. Montradale." I murmured back. After all, I didn't want to spend a morning talking to a stupid Muggle.

"Out running again, I see. It's nice to see young people taking care of themselves. Running and exercising instead of playing on their silly game stations..." As she went only, I started to tune her out. I preoccupied myself by watching Orion out of the corner of my eye. He seemed to have gotten bored with licking the dew off of the grass and was now hopelessly chasing one of the cats.

When he finally caught it, he didn't react how I thought he would. Instead of attacking it like most dogs would, he licked its eat. The feline started to realize as it realized Orion wasn't going to hurt it. After a minute of licking, Orion jumped back and then forward, wanting to play. The cat positioned itself and then pounced. I couldn't hold back a smile when I realized they were playing.

"I saw the strangest thing last night, or, at least, I thought I did." Mrs. Montradale snapped me back to attention.

"Oh?"

"Yes! When I went outside last night to check on Taz, she's about to have kittens, you know, I looked up in the sky and saw a girl flying on a broom!"

"And?" I asked, but then remembered that Muggles didn't know about flying brooms. "What?!" I quickly changed my tone.

"Yes! I know it sounds silly, but I am pretty sure that is what I saw."

"What time were you out to see it?"

"Almost eleven. It was very dark, though..."

"Perhaps you were just tired. Maybe it was just a bird."

"It was no bird. It sounds crazy, but that's what it looked like." She leaned against her door. I looked around, wanting to leave.

"I don't know," I mumbled, patting my lap towards my dog, who was still prancing around with the cat. "Orion, come on!" He looked over and then sprinted in between my legs. "Goodbye." I waved, and then took off running again.

Great. A Muggle saw her flying. thankfully, it was only Mrs. Montradale. But that meant that the other one could have seen her, too. If he had, I doubted that he would even care. I didn't know much about him, only what Uncle Severus had told me.
