Dream was having a very boring morning, he'd been cooped up in his hideout for a while now. The only reason he'd even stayed inside was being regressed after all he kind of had a bounty on his head.
After a while he was bored of being bored, ignoring the rules he set for himself and left the hideout.
He was hopping along the path, no one insight for miles until he saw Puffy in the distance. That's when he found a cure to his boredom, he was going to see just how long he could follow her until she noticed.
It worked for a while, trailing closely behind the woman, careful not to make too much noise. He was trying not to giggle whenever she would stop and duck behind the nearest cover.
Soon enough Dream slipped up, stepping on a fallen leaf making a loud crunching sound. Puffy whipped around, sword immediately up as she looked at the blonde.
The younger stumbled back, "sorry 'm sorry" Dream mumbled, watching Puffy let out a sigh as she put her sword back in its sheath.
"You're alright bud" Puffy said.
Very few people knew of Dream's regression, Puffy being one due to their mandated therapy sessions in prison, so she knew he posed no threat when small. "What are you doing out here?" She asked.
Staring down at his shoes, Dream remembered why he wasn't supposed to be out. "Got bored, tired of hiding" Dream muttered. "Not gonna tell are you?" He worried.
Puffy shook her head, it wasn't little Dreams fault for big Dreams actions but he suffered as a byproduct. "Why don't we go to my house" She suggested.
The little nodded, following Puffy down the path. "You can walk next to me if you want to sweetheart" Puffy told the younger.
"I like followin'" Dream said after shaking his head.
"Yeah?" Puffy said, "like a little duckling huh" she added, earning a quiet giggle as the blonde blushed. "C'mon little duckling, let's get you home"
It was a pretty far walk back to Puffy's but she kept the little entertained by walking in a zigzag pattern for him to follow.
He hadn't even realized how far they had walked until he bumped into Puffy when she stopped, finally at her house. "Little Duck, Why don't you head inside and turn on some cartoons while I finish some things" Puffy offered
Dream shook his head, "wanna stay wit' you" he replied.
The older nodded as they headed towards her garden, Dream yet to leave her side. She tended to her garden, letting Dream help here and there where he could.
The garden was entertaining to the little, it had all the cool things: flowers, bugs, more bugs. Dream loved it out there and when Puffy saw just how much joy it was bringing him, why go inside?
"Do you want to stay out here duckling?" Puffy asked.
"P'ease mama" Dream begged, earning a laugh from the older.
That's what the way did for the rest of the day, letting Dream explore the garden, knowing and feeling that he was safe with Puffy without having to be locked up by himself. They eventually wound down, Dream falling asleep almost instantly in Puffy's lap.
When Puffy woke up the next morning Dream was gone, ran off big sometime during the night. He'd be back sometime, surely. Little Dream wanted a caregiver and trusted Puffy, he'd be back wether Big Dream wanted to or not.
