archie's 9th birthday

Gabrielle hummed softly as she felt the warm sunshine peeking through the curtains, warmth radiating off of the footballer lying beside her, complete silence filling the room. Ben's hand was nestled in her hand, twirling a strand around his finger whilst he scrolled through Instagram on his phone.

"It's my birthday!" Archie shouts rather loudly as he runs into Elle's room, launching himself onto the bed with glee.

Ben laughed as he watched the blonde boy sit up and move his hair out of his face frantically, looking between Ben and his Mum before deciding to shake Elle awake.

"Arch, I was already awake." Elle laughs, reaching up to ruffle his bed head. Ben smiled as the little boy crawled between them both, letting his head rest on the footballer's chest whilst Elle got his birthday presents out of the cupboard.

"Are you staying again?" Archie asks Ben, looking up at him as Ben nods.

"If you want me to." Ben smiles.

"Pleaseee, then i can make all my school friends jealous because my mum's boyfriend is a footballer." Archie grins.

"Is that all you try to do Arch?" Elle asks as she walks back in with her son's presents.

Archie shrugs, letting the corners of his mouth turn up into a smile whilst he eyed the pile of beautifully wrapped presents, spider-man and iron man symbols all over the paper covering what was inside. Elle climbed back into bed and covered her legs to keep them warm before telling Archie to let loose on the presents, her head resting on Ben's shoulder.

"Woah! This is so cool!" Archie exclaims as he pulls out a new LEGO set.

"That one is from Ben." Elle leans forward and whispers to her son, squeezing his shoulders before leaning back. Archie turned around almost instantly, throwing himself at Ben and wrapping his arms around the left-back with pure excitement flowing through his veins.

"Thank you." Archie grins.

"We can build it tomorrow if you want, Mummy's got one she wants to build too." Ben smiles, ruffling his hair. Archie cheered with delight before finishing opening his presents, squeezing Elle tightly before running off to his room to get dressed for the day.

Elle and Ben finally got up and dressed too, Elle spending a little more time than Ben on her appearance since her family were coming around to celebrate with Archie. It was the first time they had been to England since Elle's failed wedding, and they were excited to meet Ben as she hadn't shut up about him on their weekly facetime.

She hadn't exactly told Ben that they were coming, she slyly mentioned it to him when he was busy so he didn't think much of it and panic. Archie had no idea either, it was a surprise for him as he hadn't seen them since Christmas, so she basically had to stay quiet about it until they arrived.

Elle smiled to herself as she watched Archie playing with his friends, kicking around a football that one of them had brought round despite the amount Archie had collected from going to Ben's matches. Ben stood between two jackets on the floor set up to be a goal, saving some goals and easily letting others fly past him so he wasn't giving them a hard time.
